Deep Tech Accelerators in Europe (2027): 25 Accelerators, Venture Builders and EU Programmes for Deep Tech Startups

Deep Tech Accelerators in Europe: 25 Programmes and Venture Builders Worth Applying To

A deep tech startup (quantum, chips, space, biotech, robotics, new materials, climate hardware) needs a different accelerator from a software startup: longer timelines, access to labs and research partners, investors who understand technology risk, and often non-dilutive money before equity. This guide lists 25 European accelerators, venture builders and EU programmes that still run, with what each one gives you according to its own website. We checked every programme on its official page in October 2026, replaced old investment terms with the ones published now, and moved closed, renamed or off-topic programmes to a short note at the end.
Quick answer: if you have a working technology and want big non-dilutive money, apply to the EIC Accelerator (grant below €2.5 million plus up to €10 million equity). Women-led deep tech startups should also look at Women TechEU (a €75k grant). Space-related startups go to an ESA Business Incubation Centre (€50k equity-free). Researchers without a company yet fit Conception X, Entrepreneurs First, HighTechXL or Wilbe; science-based seed-stage companies fit Creative Destruction Lab; chip startups imec.istart; life science and quantum startups the BioInnovation Institute.

Accelerators and Programmes Built for Deep Tech

1. EIC Accelerator (EU)

The EIC Accelerator is the European Innovation Council's programme for startups and SMEs with innovations at TRL 6 to 8. It offers a lump-sum grant below €2.5 million, completed within 24 months, and equity or quasi-equity investments of €1 million to €10 million, plus Business Acceleration Services such as coaches, mentors and access to corporate partners. The 2026 budget is €414 million for Accelerator Open (any technology) and €220 million for Accelerator Challenges. Short proposals can be submitted at any time and are batched every first Tuesday of the month; the EIC says it particularly welcomes applications from companies with female CEOs. Applicants from EU member states and Horizon Europe associated countries can apply; UK applicants can only use the grant-only scheme. Our sister site has a step-by-step EIC Accelerator guide.

2. Women TechEU (EU)

Women TechEU invests €12 million in equity-free grants between 2026 and 2028 to support 160 women-led deep tech companies. Each beneficiary receives a €75k grant and a support programme of mentoring, training, matchmaking and help towards other EIC schemes. Startups must be at TRL 4 to 6, before a high-fidelity MVP, and have raised less than €1 million in equity; 40% of each cut-off budget is reserved for applicants from Widening countries. The call runs continuously with four cut-off dates: the full-proposal deadline of 16 September 2026 has passed, and the eligibility check is open for the next cut-off. See also the EmpoWomen deep tech grants.

3. ESA Business Incubation Centres (Europe)

The European Space Agency's Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) are a Europe-wide network of incubators for startups that use space systems such as satellite navigation or Earth observation, bring space technology to other industries, or build products for the space sector. Each BIC offers up to two years of incubation, technical support from ESA and regional experts, business coaching, legal and IP advice, fundraising guidance and €50k of equity-free funding for product and IP development. ESA says more than 2,000 startups have come through the network. You apply to the local BIC of your choice before its cut-off date.

4. Creative Destruction Lab (Berlin, Estonia, London, Milan, Paris, San Sebastian)

Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is a nonprofit, founded in 2012 at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, that runs an objectives-based programme for seed-stage, science- and technology-based companies. Six of its 17 sites are in Europe: Berlin, Estonia, London, Milan, Paris and San Sebastian. Every eight weeks founders meet mentors (exited entrepreneurs, angel investors and VC partners) who set short-term objectives; mentors often invest in ventures that hit them. Streams include quantum, space, compute, energy, climate, biotech and defence. CDL does not publish a fixed cheque; the money comes from mentors and investors in the room.

5. Entrepreneurs First (London)

Entrepreneurs First (EF) invests in individuals before they have a team or an idea. Founders in Europe apply to its London programmes or its residency programmes for Europeans. EF runs a 12-week FORM programme with co-founder matching in the local hub, then a 12-week LAUNCH programme in San Francisco. It pays an equity-free Talent Investment grant to cover living costs, invests up to $250,000 in teams that pass its Investment Committee and move to San Francisco, and lists lab access and hardware partners among its resources.

6. HighTechXL (Eindhoven)

Its own figures (Q1 2026) are 102 ventures created and €171M raised. You do not need your own idea to apply.

It runs a Validate programme for founders who are still testing their market, an Accelerate programme that does not take equity, and sector deep-dive programmes. The BioInnovation Institute (BII) runs a one-year Venture Lab for early-stage startups with funding of up to DKK 4M, and a three-year Bio Studio for academic researchers with up to DKK 5.35M a year. Its six-month Quantum Lab, run with NATO DIANA, gives quantum startups contractual funding of €100,000; companies must be headquartered in a NATO country and have dual-use technology. Removed From the Old List and What Changed

The 2025 version of this article listed 25 programmes with investment terms that many of them no longer publish. We removed these entries:
  • Seedcamp: now presents itself as an early-stage investor that leads seed rounds, not a fixed-term accelerator; its website no longer shows the old €100,000 for 7.5% offer.
  • Wayra: now describes itself as Telefónica's corporate venture capital arm, investing in Spain, Germany, the UK and Brazil.
  • Yunus Social Business: runs funds for social businesses, not a deep tech accelerator.
  • Berkeley SkyDeck Europe (Milan): its official Europe page now returns an error, and we could not confirm a current Milan cohort on an official page.
  • Baltic Sandbox: its official website did not respond, so we could not verify a current programme.
  • Katapult Accelerator: Katapult now presents itself as Katapult Ocean, an impact platform and a foundation; its accelerator address redirects to the holding company homepage.
  • EIT Digital Accelerator: eitdigital.eu now redirects to 28DIGITAL, which runs startup and scaleup programmes under that name.
  • Deep Tech Lab – Quantum: continued as the BII Quantum Lab with NATO DIANA (see number 9).
We also replaced the old terms for Techstars, Startupbootcamp, Founders Factory, Accelerace, Startuplab, Entrepreneurs First and Antler with what their websites publish now, or left terms out when they are not published.

  • You have no co-founder or no idea yet: Entrepreneurs First, HighTechXL or Antler.
  • You build chips, sensors or hardware: imec.istart, HighTechXL or YES!Delft.
  • You build quantum technology: BII Quantum Lab, Station F's Lab Quantique or CDL's quantum stream.
  • You want mentors and investors more than a cheque: Creative Destruction Lab, Hello Tomorrow or DeepTech Alliance.
  • You want to keep all your equity: YES!Delft, MassChallenge Switzerland, ESA BICs and the EU grants.

How Founders Use Deep Tech Accelerators

Most deep tech founders combine several of these: a university programme or incubator first, a grant to reach the next technology readiness level, then an accelerator or investor once the technology works. Check your technology readiness level first, because most EU grants are tied to it, and compare the support options in our lists of deep tech incubators in Europe and startup incubators in Europe. When you are ready to raise, see the deep tech VCs in Europe and deep tech angel investors in Europe. Choosing where to build? FAQ About Deep Tech Accelerators in Europe

A programme for startups built on scientific or engineering breakthroughs, such as quantum, chips, space, biotech or new materials. Compared with a software accelerator it usually offers longer support, access to labs and research partners, and investors who understand technology risk.

Which is the best deep tech accelerator in Europe?

It depends on your stage. The EIC Accelerator is the largest source of non-dilutive money for companies at TRL 6 to 8, Creative Destruction Lab is strong for science-based seed-stage companies, and Conception X, Entrepreneurs First and HighTechXL suit founders who are still forming a company.

Which deep tech accelerators do not take equity?

YES!Delft's accelerator does not take equity, MassChallenge Switzerland gives equity-free prizes, ESA Business Incubation Centres give €50k of equity-free funding, and the EIC Accelerator grant and Women TechEU grant are non-dilutive.

How much funding does the EIC Accelerator give?

A lump-sum grant below €2.5 million for innovation activities at TRL 6 to 8, completed within 24 months, plus equity or quasi-equity investments of €1 million to €10 million.

Is there a deep tech accelerator for women founders?

Yes. Women TechEU gives women-led deep tech startups a €75k grant plus mentoring and training, with 160 companies to be supported between 2026 and 2028. The EIC also says it particularly welcomes applications from companies with female CEOs.

Can UK deep tech startups apply to EU programmes?

Partly. UK applicants can only apply to the grant-only scheme of the EIC Accelerator. UK-based programmes such as Conception X, Entrepreneurs First, Antler, Techstars London and Founders Factory are open to them.

What does an ESA Business Incubation Centre offer?

Up to two years of incubation, technical support from ESA and regional experts, business coaching, IP advice and €50k of equity-free funding for product and IP development, for startups that use or build space technology.

I am a PhD researcher. Which programme fits me?

Conception X runs a nine-month fellowship for about 100 PhD founders a year alongside the PhD, Wilbe runs free online Build Weeks for scientists, and BII's Bio Studio funds academic researchers in Copenhagen.

How long do deep tech accelerators last?

From an eight-week residency (Antler) or a three-month accelerator (Techstars London, Startuplab) to a nine-month fellowship (Conception X), a 12-month venture building programme (HighTechXL) and up to two years of incubation (ESA BICs).

Why are some accelerators from the old list missing?

We removed programmes we could not confirm on their official sites or that changed into something else: Seedcamp, Wayra, Yunus Social Business, Berkeley SkyDeck Europe, Baltic Sandbox and Katapult. EIT Digital is now 28DIGITAL.
