LottieFiles Alternatives (2027): 10 Tools to Create, Edit, Host and Play Lottie and Interactive Animations, Free and Paid

LottieFiles Alternatives to Create, Edit, Host and Play Lightweight Animations

LottieFiles is the best-known home of Lottie, the small, scalable animation format that product teams use for app onboarding, loaders, icons and landing page hero animations. But Lottie is an open format, not a LottieFiles product, so you can design, export, host and play it with many other tools, and some teams move to a different format altogether. We checked LottieFiles' own plans and every alternative below on its official website in October 2026: the free plan, the price shown by default, and whether it really exports Lottie. Tools that are no longer developed, or that never made Lottie files, are listed separately at the end.
Quick answer: for interactive app and website animations with logic built in, use Rive; for the fastest free way to make a Lottie in the browser, use Jitter; for a Lottie editor and hosting built for product teams, use Lottielab; for animated SVG plus Lottie, use SVGator; for free professional motion design, use Cavalry; if you already pay for Adobe, use After Effects with Bodymovin; and to play Lottie on your own site for free, use the open-source dotLottie or lottie-web players.

What LottieFiles Offers and Costs in 2027

To know what you are replacing: the LottieFiles pricing page (checked October 2026) lists the Individual plan at $19.99 per user per month and Team at $24.99 per user per month, both billed annually; Team+ and Enterprise are priced on request. Individual includes one editor, 10 GB of CDN hosting, 2 GB of asset storage, 300 AI credits a month and Lottie Creator. There is no free plan card, but the FAQ says new users get unlimited preview, testing and sharing, plus the free animation library with basic edits. Its browser editor, Lottie Creator, is free to use, but its FAQ says free users can only export five animations; it exports Lottie JSON, dotLottie, GIF, MP4, MOV and WebM and adds AI features such as Motion Copilot and state machines for interactivity.
The format itself is open: the Lottie Animation Community is a non-profit open-source project hosted by the Linux Foundation that works on a formal Lottie specification. That is why every tool below can create or play Lottie files without LottieFiles.

The Best LottieFiles Alternatives in 2027

1. Rive: interactive animations with logic in one small file

Rive is the strongest choice if your animation has to react: buttons, onboarding flows, game menus or dashboards driven by live data. Its State Machine adds interactivity without code, Data Binding lets your app drive any property, and its runtimes are MIT-licensed with no royalties or runtime fees, for the web, React, React Native, Flutter, iOS, Android, Unity, Unreal and more. The trade-off: Rive uses its own .riv format, not Lottie. On the Rive pricing page, Lottie appears as an import format only, and exports are .riv, MP4, GIF, PNG sequences, WebM and hosted links. The Free plan's .riv exports play a Rive splash screen; Cadet ($9 per seat per month, up to 3 seats) removes it, and Voyager costs $32 per seat. Rive now also has a CLI and a built-in AI agent that build and animate files from plain text.

2. Jitter: the quickest free way to make a Lottie in the browser

Jitter is a browser-based motion design tool that feels like Figma, with Figma import, animation presets and more than 300 templates. It is the only tool here whose free plan exports Lottie: the Jitter pricing page lists video, GIF and Lottie export at 720p and 30 fps on Free, with 3 workspace files, unlimited drafts and limited AI credits, and exports carry a Jitter watermark. Pro costs $15 per editor per month billed annually and adds unlimited files, 1080p at 60 fps and ProRes and WebM; Max ($35) adds transparent and frame-by-frame export and 4K. Good for marketers who need product animations for social posts, landing pages and app stores fast.

3. Lottielab: a Lottie editor and host built for product teams

Lottielab calls itself the motion design tool for product teams: you create or edit Lottie animations, import from Figma or upload existing Lottie and SVG files, and ship them to apps and websites. Read the Lottielab plans carefully: the Free plan has unlimited files but exports only GIF and MP4. Lottie export, HD and 4K video, a team library, file size optimisation and Lottie hosting with a CDN come with Pro at $12 per editor per month, billed annually. That makes it the cheapest paid replacement for LottieFiles' editing plus hosting combination.

4. SVGator: animated SVG and Lottie without code

SVGator is a no-code tool for web animation that exports animated SVG (CSS or JavaScript), Lottie JSON and code for Flutter and React Native, with hover and click presets and a Player API for interactive control. You can import static SVG or Lottie files and use its Figma plugin. On the SVGator pricing page, the Free plan has the full editor but only static SVG exports; animated SVG and Lottie start with Starter at $20 a month billed yearly, Pro ($24) adds video and GIF, and Team costs $27 per seat with at least 3 seats. Choose it when you want one animation to work both as a lightweight SVG on your website and as a Lottie in your app.

5. Cavalry: free professional motion design, now by Canva

Cavalry is professional 2D animation software for Mac and Windows with procedural rigs, data-driven animation, dynamics and Lottie export. Its website says it is now brought to you by Canva and is free for individuals with no restrictions; you need a Canva account to use it, and teams get SSO through Canva Enterprise. It has a steeper learning curve than Jitter or Lottielab, but it is a serious free alternative to After Effects for motion designers who export Lottie.

6. Adobe After Effects with Bodymovin: the original Lottie workflow

Lottie started as an After Effects export format, and many designers still work this way. Adobe After Effects costs US$22.99 a month on an annual plan billed monthly, with a 7-day free trial. To export Lottie JSON you add Bodymovin, the exporter that lives in Airbnb's open-source, MIT-licensed lottie-web repository; you install it, select a composition and click Render. It gives you the most control, but not every After Effects effect works in Lottie, so test on real devices. Pick this if your designer already has Creative Cloud.

7. Linearity Move: motion design on Mac, iPad and iPhone

Linearity Move animates your designs without After Effects' complexity and runs on Mac, iPad and iPhone. Its page lists MP4, MOV and GIF exports with or without a transparent background and lists Lottie Export as a feature, but does not say which plan includes it. On the Linearity pricing page, the Free plan includes Move and its sister design app Curve with usage limits, and Pro costs €10 a month or €8 a month billed annually, including VAT.

8. Keyshape: SVG and Lottie animation for Mac

Keyshape is a Mac app for animated 2D vector graphics, sold on the Mac App Store with a 14-day trial version. It exports SVG animations for web pages, animated GIF, PNG, WebP and JPEG XL, MP4 and QuickTime video, image sequences and sprite sheets, and Lottie and Android animated vector drawables through a plugin. Its website does not show a price, so check the App Store in your country.

9. Glaxnimate: free, open-source Lottie editing on any desktop

Glaxnimate is an open-source vector animation and motion design app from the KDE community, licensed under GNU GPLv3, for Linux, Windows and Mac. It exports Lottie, animated GIF, WebP and animated SVG, and version 0.6.0, released on 3 March 2026, was its first stable release under KDE. It is simpler than Cavalry, but it is the best fit if you want a free tool with no account and no cloud.

10. Open-source players: play and host Lottie without LottieFiles

If you only need to show Lottie animations on your site or in your app, you do not need a paid platform. dotlottie-web, the official LottieFiles web player for .json and .lottie files, is MIT-licensed, runs on the ThorVG engine and works with plain JavaScript, React, Vue, Svelte, Solid or as a Web Component; it also supports dotLottie themes and state machines. Airbnb's lottie-web is the classic MIT-licensed player, but its repository was last updated in September 2025, so new projects may prefer dotLottie. Host the files on your own server or CDN like any image, and keep them small: fewer layers and no embedded raster images make the biggest difference.

LottieFiles Alternatives That Are Discontinued or Not a Fit

The 2025 version of this article listed some tools that no longer belong on this list:
  • Haiku Animator: its makers open-sourced it in August 2021 after closing their commercial services. The GitHub README says the project is open to new maintainers and still asks for very old tooling, so it is not a safe choice for new work. Use Glaxnimate or Jitter instead.
  • Adobe Animate: Adobe announced its discontinuation in February 2026, then reversed the decision days later. Its maintenance-mode FAQ says Animate stays available with security and bug fixes, but no new features are planned. Adobe itself points users to After Effects.
  • Unity: a game engine, not a tool for lightweight web or app animations. If you build games, Rive's Unity runtime is the closer match.
  • Vyond and Animaker: explainer video makers that produce videos, not Lottie files for apps and websites. They suit marketing videos, not UI animation.

Which LottieFiles Alternative Should You Choose?

  • You want a free tool that exports Lottie today: Jitter (watermarked, 720p) or Glaxnimate (open source, no limits).
  • You need editing plus hosting for a product team: Lottielab Pro at $12 per editor per month, or stay on LottieFiles if you use its library and integrations.
  • Your animation must react to taps, scroll or app data: Rive, and accept that you ship .riv instead of Lottie.
  • You want lightweight animated SVG on your website as well as Lottie: SVGator.
  • You are a motion designer: Cavalry for free, or After Effects with Bodymovin if you already pay for Adobe.
  • You design on Mac or iPad: Linearity Move or Keyshape.
  • You only need to play animations: the open-source dotLottie player on your own hosting.

How Founders Use Lottie Animations

For an early-stage startup, a small animation is one of the cheapest ways to make a landing page or app feel finished: an animated hero that shows the product in action, a loader that hides a slow API call, or onboarding steps that explain a feature without a video. Keep it to one or two animations per page, check that the page still loads fast, and test whether it changes sign-ups; our free landing page analyzer guide helps with that. Design the static screens first in one of the open-source Figma alternatives or free Canva Pro alternatives, prototype the flow with the open-source InVision alternatives, and animate only what helps users understand the product. For icons and illustrations to animate, see our free Illustrator alternatives, free Vectr alternatives and open-source Inkscape alternatives; for 3D scenes, see the free Blender alternatives. FAQ About LottieFiles Alternatives

What is the best alternative to LottieFiles?

It depends on the job. Rive is best for interactive animations with logic, Jitter is the quickest free way to export a Lottie, Lottielab is the closest replacement for LottieFiles' editing and hosting, and the open-source dotLottie player is enough if you only need to play animations.

Is LottieFiles free?

Partly. When we checked in October 2026, new users got unlimited preview, testing and sharing and the free animation library, and Lottie Creator's FAQ said free users can export five animations. Paid plans start at $19.99 per user per month, billed annually.

Which LottieFiles alternative exports Lottie for free?

Jitter's Free plan exports Lottie at 720p with a watermark, Glaxnimate is free and open source, Cavalry is free for individuals and lists Lottie export, and Bodymovin is a free plugin, although it needs a paid After Effects licence.

Is Rive better than Lottie?

For interactive animations, Rive is often the better fit because its state machine and data binding live inside one small .riv file. But Rive does not export Lottie, so choose it only if you can ship its MIT-licensed runtime in your app or website.

Can I host Lottie files without LottieFiles?

Yes. A Lottie is a JSON or .lottie file, so you can host it on your own server or CDN and play it with the free, MIT-licensed dotLottie or lottie-web players. Lottielab Pro also includes Lottie hosting with a CDN.

Does Lottielab's free plan export Lottie?

No. When we checked in October 2026, Lottielab's Free plan exported GIF and MP4 only; Lottie export and hosting were part of Pro at $12 per editor per month, billed annually.

Is Haiku Animator still available?

Its code is open source on GitHub since August 2021, when its makers closed their commercial services, but the project is looking for new maintainers and depends on old tooling. Glaxnimate or Jitter are safer choices.

Is Adobe Animate being discontinued?

No longer. Adobe announced a shutdown in February 2026 and reversed it days later; Animate is now in maintenance mode, with security and bug fixes but no new features.

Is Lottie an open format?

Yes. Lottie is an open-source animation file format, and the Lottie Animation Community, hosted by the Linux Foundation, works on its formal specification.

Where can I get a backlink by writing about my startup?
