Corpus Christi Startups to Watch in 2027: Verified Tech Companies, AI Data Center Projects and Where Founders Get Support

Corpus Christi is a port and energy city on the Texas Gulf Coast. Its economy runs on oil and gas exports, petrochemicals, the military and, more and more, on large data center projects. It is not a startup hub like Austin or Houston, and very few venture rounds from the city are ever published. The 2026 version of this article listed ten Corpus Christi startups. When we checked them, half could not be found anywhere, and most of the real ones are based in other cities or are not startups at all. For this 2027 edition we started again. In November 2026 we checked each company and project on its own website or in an official announcement to confirm that it exists, that it is in Corpus Christi and that it is still active. We did not pad the list. What happened to the old names is explained near the end.
Quick answer: the Corpus Christi startups and projects to watch in 2027 are KumoKodo.ai (a young AI software studio), Straight Edge Technology (a local managed IT and cybersecurity firm), the Duos Edge AI edge data center downtown, Hut 8's Beacon Point AI data center campus in Nueces County and the Port of Corpus Christi's maritime nuclear studies. For support, start with the Del Mar College SBDC, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and the city's small business programmes.

Why Corpus Christi Matters for Founders in 2027

Three things shape startups in Corpus Christi. The first is the port and the energy industry: big buyers of software, sensors, cybersecurity, maintenance and logistics services that a small startup can sell to. The city is also home to the corporate office of Uranium Energy Corp, a NYSE American-listed uranium miner, which shows that energy companies run their business from here, not only their plants. The second is digital infrastructure: in 2026 the region gained a new edge data center downtown and a 1 GW AI data center campus in Nueces County. The third is public support rather than venture capital: the city, Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi fund advising, training and internships for small businesses.
Corpus Christi is a small ecosystem, like the ones in our guides to El Paso startups and Omaha startups. Compare it with larger hubs in our lists of Oklahoma City startups to watch, Raleigh-Durham startups and San Diego startups to watch.

The Corpus Christi Startups and Projects to Watch in 2027

1. KumoKodo.ai: an AI software studio

KumoKodo.ai is an AI application studio that builds its own software products and builds AI software for clients. Its homepage says it has run as a studio since December 2025, has built 12 products, has 9 client sites live and routes 16 AI models through one gateway. Its own products include Kodokyo, an AI project workspace in public beta, Kodori, an AI document management system for law firms and architecture and engineering firms, and Kuroji, an AI finance agent for startups. Clients named on its site include TXPReal, an investment analysis platform for Texas real estate investors. In a July 2025 post on the company blog, chief executive Sam Simpson wrote that the company is based in Corpus Christi. It does not publish funding figures.
Lesson for founders: KumoKodo.ai pays for its product bets with client projects. In a city with few investors, a service business that funds its own products is a realistic way to start.
Best for: founders in AI software, SaaS and digital agencies.

2. Straight Edge Technology: managed IT and cybersecurity

Straight Edge Technology provides managed IT, co-managed IT, cybersecurity, unified communications and cloud services to businesses. Its website lists phone lines for Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Dallas, gives its Corpus Christi address as 2210 Patton Street, and names the industries it serves, including oil and gas, healthcare, construction, legal and manufacturing. It is not a young startup, but it was on the old list and it is one of the local technology firms that new companies in the city work with. It does not publish funding figures.
Lesson for founders: Straight Edge sells the same services in Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Dallas and lists the industries it knows on its site. A service business that wins locally can expand to nearby Texas cities with the same playbook.
Best for: founders in IT services, cybersecurity and B2B software.

3. Duos Edge AI: an edge data center downtown

According to a May 2026 press release from its parent company, Duos Technologies Group (Nasdaq: DUOT), Duos Edge AI has a newly operational edge data center at 717 N. Tancahua Street in Corpus Christi. The site delivers more than 450 kW of critical IT load for high-performance computing, network infrastructure, AI workloads and disaster recovery, and is meant to serve as a communications hub for carriers and network providers. It is not a local startup, but it gives local startups something they rarely had: computing power and connectivity close by.
Lesson for founders: new infrastructure creates new customers. Startups that offer AI, data or disaster recovery services can now run them close to clients in the Coastal Bend.
Best for: founders in AI, cloud services, telecoms and disaster recovery.

4. Hut 8 Beacon Point: an AI data center campus

Hut 8 announced its Beacon Point campus in Nueces County, which includes Corpus Christi, in May 2026. According to Hut 8's announcements published by the Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation, the first phase was a 352 MW AI factory leased to a single high-investment-grade tenant. In July 2026 Hut 8 said it had fully commercialised the 1 GW campus with a second 15-year, 352 MW lease, which doubled that tenant's contracted capacity to 704 MW. A project of this size needs construction, power, cooling, security, maintenance and workforce training, much of it bought from local suppliers.
Lesson for founders: follow the big projects. A campus like Beacon Point is not a startup, but it creates years of demand that small companies can serve.
Best for: founders in energy, cooling, construction technology, security and workforce training.

5. The Port of Corpus Christi's maritime nuclear studies

According to the American Nuclear Society, the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Port of Corpus Christi in August 2026 to explore small modular reactors for ships and ports, resilient port microgrids, shoreside power and workforce development. It was MARAD's second agreement of this kind with a U.S. port, after Long Beach. In a separate agreement, the port and CORE POWER agreed on a site-specific study of whether Corpus Christi could host a floating nuclear power plant and serve nuclear-powered commercial ships; CORE POWER called it a preliminary exercise, so nothing has been decided.
Lesson for founders: these are studies, not contracts. They show where the port is looking, which is useful for founders in energy, maritime and engineering services, but do not plan a business around them until real projects are announced.
Best for: founders in maritime technology, energy and engineering.

Where Corpus Christi Startups Get Support

  • Del Mar College Small Business Development Center: confidential one-on-one advising at no cost, by appointment, virtually or in person, plus training events (its calendar listed sessions on credit, word-of-mouth marketing and using analytics and AI for 3 and 4 November 2026). • Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Autonomy Research Institute: the former Lone Star UAS Center (its old web address now leads here) is one of nine FAA-designated unmanned aircraft system test sites and works on autonomous systems for air, land, water and space. Drone and robotics startups can test and partner here.

  • City of Corpus Christi small business programmes: in October 2024 the City Council approved eight small business assistance agreements worth $1,076,700, funded by the Corpus Christi B Corporation's Fiscal Year 2025 budget: $150,000 for a LiftFund interest buy-down on loans, $86,700 for SCORE mentoring, $290,000 for TAMU-CC and Del Mar College internship programmes, and $550,000 for Del Mar College's APEX Accelerator, Contractor Resource Center, Cyber Center and SBDC.

  • TWU Center for Women Entrepreneurs Accelerator, Corpus Christi: Texas Woman's University ran a Corpus Christi cohort for early-stage women-owned businesses with weekly sessions, advising and mentors. The 2025 cohort took applications from 1 to 16 March 2025 and ran from 25 March to 20 May 2025; applications are closed, so watch the page for the next call.
  • Corpus Christi Entrepreneurs: a free Facebook community for Coastal Bend business owners and first-time founders, running since 2010 with more than 5,000 members, according to its website, which also offers a free AI helper for small business questions.
For founders who build drones, sensors or robots, the university's test site is the most distinctive asset the city has.

Corpus Christi Startups From the Old List That Could Not Be Verified

The 2026 version of this article listed ten startups. Here is what we found when we checked each one in November 2026:
  • OmniTech Solutions, BlueWave Tech, SeaStream, AgriTech Corpus and Coastal Renewable Energies: we found no official website, registry entry or news report for a Corpus Christi company with any of these names. The old article cited a coding bootcamp blog and a university news item about a planned farm hub, not the companies themselves. All five were removed, together with their claims.
  • DroneUp: a real drone and airspace technology company, but its website gives no Corpus Christi base, so it is not on a Corpus Christi list.
  • Infinitum: a real electric motor company, but its website gives its address in Austin.
  • Alpine Physician Partners: a senior primary care group whose website did not load; the job listings we found place it in Colorado and California, not Corpus Christi.
  • Church Unlimited: a church with several Corpus Christi campuses, not a startup.
  • Straight Edge Technology: real and based in Corpus Christi, so it stays on the list.
We also checked newer names that appear on startup lists for Corpus Christi and left them out: 360factors (its contact page gives its headquarters in Austin), AccuCell Biotechnology (its site gives Brownsville), Audily (its website returns an error) and AirVote (its domain is for sale). AXE H2O, a company that proposed a large seawater desalination plant for the Coastal Bend, says on its website that it has concluded its Corpus Christi water project activities. We also removed the old article's unsourced claims about federal investment and the city's ranking.

FAQ About Corpus Christi Startups to Watch in 2027

Which Corpus Christi startups should I watch in 2027?

Our verified list: KumoKodo.ai and Straight Edge Technology, plus three projects that create work for local startups: the Duos Edge AI data center, Hut 8's Beacon Point AI data center campus and the Port of Corpus Christi's maritime nuclear studies. We checked each one in November 2026.

Why is this list so short?

Corpus Christi has few venture-backed startups, and we only list companies whose own website or an official announcement confirms that they exist, are in Corpus Christi and are active. Half of the old list could not be found anywhere, and most of the rest are based in other cities.

Is Corpus Christi a good place to start a startup?

It suits founders who sell to energy, port, logistics, industrial and military customers, or who build drones and autonomous systems. It is harder for consumer apps that need local venture capital, because very few rounds from the city are published.

Where can Corpus Christi founders get free help?

The Del Mar College Small Business Development Center offers confidential advising at no cost, virtually or in person. The city also funds SCORE mentoring, a LiftFund loan interest buy-down and Del Mar College's APEX Accelerator for government contracting.

Is there a drone test site in Corpus Christi?

Yes. The Autonomy Research Institute at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, formerly the Lone Star UAS Center, is one of nine FAA-designated unmanned aircraft system test sites and works on autonomous systems for air, land, water and space.

Who invests in Corpus Christi startups?

Very few rounds are published. Most young companies grow on revenue, grants and local loans. For investors, look to Texas funds in Austin, Houston and San Antonio, and compare our guide to early-stage VC firms.

Are there programmes for women founders in Corpus Christi?

Yes. Texas Woman's University ran a Center for Women Entrepreneurs Accelerator cohort in Corpus Christi from March to May 2025; applications are closed until the next call. Our guide to grants for female entrepreneurs lists more funding options.

What happened to the startups on the old list?

We removed OmniTech Solutions, BlueWave Tech, SeaStream, AgriTech Corpus and Coastal Renewable Energies because we found no trace of them, and DroneUp, Infinitum, Alpine Physician Partners and Church Unlimited because they are not Corpus Christi startups. Straight Edge Technology stays.
