Hootsuite vs CoSchedule: Social Media Command Centre or Marketing Calendar for Your Startup?
Hootsuite and CoSchedule both schedule posts to Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and the other big networks, but they start from different ideas. Hootsuite is a social media command centre: publishing, one inbox for messages, social listening, competitor benchmarks and an AI agent, sold per user. CoSchedule is a marketing calendar: social posts sit on the same drag-and-drop calendar as your campaigns and content, with a free plan and much lower prices. We checked plans, prices, trials, networks and AI features on hootsuite.com and coschedule.com in October 2026, so this comparison shows what a founder or a small marketing team actually gets and pays in 2027.
Quick answer: for most startups and small teams, CoSchedule is the better buy: $29 a month (billed annually) for one person and 3 social profiles, $49 a month for 2 people and 5 profiles, approvals included, and a free plan for 1 profile. Choose Hootsuite when social media is a channel you run every day and need to listen to: it starts at $99 per user per month (billed annually) for 10 accounts, but adds social listening, competitor benchmarks, a strong shared inbox and the Wisdom AI agent on every plan. Hootsuite has no free plan, only a 14-day trial, and regular billing begins when it ends unless you cancel.

Hootsuite vs CoSchedule at a Glance
Sources: hootsuite.com/plans and the Hootsuite integrations page, coschedule.com/pricing and CoSchedule's Free Calendar help article, checked 29 October 2026. Hootsuite showed euros (€99, €199, €399) in the default view from Europe; its FAQ gives the same figures in US dollars.
Hootsuite: Social Media Management With Listening and an AI Agent
Hootsuite is a social media management suite for brands and teams. In June 2026 it rebuilt the product as Hootsuite Social OS around an AI agent called Wisdom: according to its press release of 24 June 2026, publishing and planning became Perch, the inbox became Nest, employee advocacy (Amplify) became Parliament and Talkwalker became Lumen by Talkwalker for social listening, with MCP connectors so AI assistants can work with Hootsuite data. The plans page now says every plan "runs on Wisdom", which drafts posts, recommends and analyses.
Plans (checked October 2026, per user per month, billed annually):
- Standard, $99: up to 10 social accounts, unlimited scheduling, AI-generated posts and images, one inbox for messages, brand and competitor monitoring (5 competitors) and social listening.
- Professional, $199: unlimited social accounts, automated inbox replies and AI smart replies, custom performance reports, 30 days of Quick Search, trend forecasting up to 90 days ahead and 20 competitors.
- Advanced, $399: content approvals and internal comments, message assignment and routing to the right teammate, customer satisfaction surveys, team performance and branded reports.
- Enterprise, custom: SSO, advanced listening in Lumen with 13 months of history, social ROI reporting, Salesforce integration and Parliament for employee advocacy.
- Trial and billing: a 14-day free trial on Standard, Professional and Advanced; Hootsuite's FAQ (checked November 2026) says regular billing begins when it ends, so cancel before then if you do not want to pay. Trial accounts can post 10 to 20 times a day per organisation, without bulk scheduling. Monthly billing is available; annual billing gives the lower per-user rate shown. Taxes come on top.
Networks: Hootsuite's integrations page lists Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Pinterest and Bluesky, plus WhatsApp messages in the inbox. Google Business Profile (still called Google My Business there) is a third-party app for reviews, messages and updates, and Hootsuite counts more than 100 apps and integrations. Keep one catch in mind: Hootsuite is priced per user, and its FAQ says some features only work with several seats, so a team of three pays three times.

CoSchedule: Social Publishing on a Marketing Calendar
CoSchedule calls itself social media management software built on the best calendar. You plan whole campaigns on a drag-and-drop calendar, move a launch date and the posts move with it, publish to 11 networks, recycle evergreen posts with ReQueue, reply from a Social Inbox and measure results in the same tool. That makes it a good fit when one person or a small team runs social media next to blog posts, emails and launches.
Plans (checked October 2026, USD):
- Free: schedule up to 15 posts at a time on 1 social profile. CoSchedule's Free Calendar help article says drafts and failed posts count toward the 15, and X, social analytics, ReQueue and bulk scheduling need a paid plan. You get there by starting a trial and switching to Free when it ends.
- Starter, $29 a month billed annually ($39 monthly): 1 user, 3 social profiles (+$5 a month each), unlimited scheduling, ReQueue, analytics and reports, a Social Inbox for Facebook and Instagram, and the AI Social and Campaign Assistants. CoSchedule says Starter is for single users.
- Professional, $49 billed annually ($59 monthly): 2 users plus 1 more at $29 a month (3 at most), 5 social profiles, an inbox for 9 networks with saved and AI replies, approvals, AI Insights and custom dashboards, read-only calendar sharing, white-label reports and client calendars for agencies.
- Suite, custom from $69 a month: as many users as you need, roles and permissions, content and campaign planning with custom fields and templates, unlimited sub-calendars, AI brand voice training and SSO. Suite starts with a demo, not a trial.
- Extras and discounts: X profiles are not included in any plan and cost $16 per profile a month. Nonprofits get 30% off paid plans, and annual plans are discounted. The 14-day trial on Starter and Professional asks for a card, but you are not charged if you cancel before it ends.
AI and integrations: every paid plan has unlimited use of the AI Social Assistant, AI Campaign Assistant and AI Project Assistant, AI image generation and a library of more than 1,600 prompts, and you can choose OpenAI or Anthropic models to power the assistant. CoSchedule connects to Mailchimp, HubSpot, Canva, Zapier, WordPress and Google Analytics, among others, and can import up to 365 social messages at once. What Hootsuite and CoSchedule Really Cost a Small Team
Because Hootsuite charges per user and CoSchedule per plan, the gap grows with every person you add. On annual billing, one founder pays $29 a month for CoSchedule Starter or $99 for Hootsuite Standard. Two people pay $49 for CoSchedule Professional or $198 for two Hootsuite Standard seats, and three people pay $78 or $297. Even if you need Hootsuite's 10 accounts, CoSchedule Starter with 7 extra profiles comes to $64 a month ($29 + 7 × $5), as long as none of them is an X profile, which costs $16 a month each on CoSchedule.
What the extra money buys at Hootsuite: social listening and competitor benchmarks, a stronger shared inbox, unlimited accounts from Professional and Wisdom AI trained on social data. If you do not need those yet, the price difference is better spent on content or ads.
Hootsuite vs CoSchedule: Feature by Feature
Scheduling and the calendar
Both tools offer unlimited scheduling on paid plans and a visual calendar. CoSchedule's calendar is the product: social posts, campaigns and other marketing work sit side by side, and you can share a read-only view with anyone from Professional. Hootsuite's calendar is built for social posts across many accounts, with planning and publishing now called Perch. If you plan launches, blog posts and emails together, CoSchedule fits better; if you only manage social channels, Hootsuite's calendar is all you need.
Networks
CoSchedule publishes to 11 networks, including Mastodon and Google Business Profile, but X is a paid add-on at $16 per profile a month. Hootsuite lists 10 networks including Bluesky and Threads, handles WhatsApp messages in its inbox and covers Google Business reviews through an app. Instagram publishing needs a Business or Creator account on CoSchedule; check the same on Hootsuite before you connect a personal profile.
Inbox and community management
Hootsuite's inbox is on every plan, and Professional automates replies with AI. CoSchedule's Starter inbox covers only Facebook and Instagram; Professional extends it to 9 networks with AI replies, saved replies and internal discussions. If customers write to you mostly through social DMs, Hootsuite is the stronger tool; for comments on a few channels, CoSchedule Professional is enough.
Analytics, listening and competitors
This is where Hootsuite earns its price: brand and competitor monitoring from Standard, 30-day Quick Search and 90-day trend forecasts on Professional, and Lumen listening on Enterprise. CoSchedule offers social analytics and reports, scheduled reports and AI Insights with custom dashboards on Professional, but no social listening on its pricing page.
AI features
Hootsuite builds its whole product around Wisdom, an AI agent that draws on Hootsuite's social data, and adds MCP connectors so tools such as Claude or ChatGPT can work with it. CoSchedule gives unlimited AI writing, campaign and image tools on every paid plan and lets you pick OpenAI or Anthropic models. Hootsuite's AI is built on its social and listening data; CoSchedule's works inside your marketing calendar.
Team and approvals
Approvals are where a small team feels the price gap most: CoSchedule includes social message approvals in Professional at $49 a month, while Hootsuite puts approval workflows in Advanced at $399 per user a month. CoSchedule Professional stops at 3 users, so a growing team moves to Suite; Hootsuite simply adds seats.
What Changed Since the 2026 Version of This Comparison
- CoSchedule prices: the old text said CoSchedule starts at $19 per user a month. It now starts at $29 a month billed annually ($39 monthly) for 1 user and 3 profiles, and X profiles cost $16 a month extra.
- Hootsuite prices: "from $99 a month" is now $99 per user per month on annual billing, so every extra team member adds the same again.
- Hootsuite Social OS: in June 2026 Hootsuite rebuilt its product around the Wisdom AI agent and renamed its parts Perch, Nest, Lumen and Parliament.
- CoSchedule's free plan still exists: 1 social profile and up to 15 scheduled posts at a time, reached after the trial.
- CoSchedule analytics: no longer "basic": Professional adds AI Insights, custom dashboards and white-label reports.
- Removed: third-party "learn more" links, the generic "common mistakes" section and unsourced claims about each tool.
Hootsuite or CoSchedule: Which Should You Choose?

- You plan campaigns, blog posts and social on one calendar: CoSchedule.
- Social media is your main channel and you need listening, competitor tracking and a busy shared inbox: Hootsuite Standard or Professional.
- You manage many brands or more than 10 accounts: Hootsuite Professional (unlimited accounts) or CoSchedule Professional with extra profiles at $5 each, depending on your budget.
- You post a lot on X: Hootsuite, because CoSchedule charges $16 per X profile a month.
- You want to own the software: one of the open-source Buffer alternatives you can host yourself.

How Founders Use a Social Media Tool to Get Customers
A scheduler only pays off if it helps you post the right things consistently. Pick two or three networks where your customers are, plan a month of posts around one launch or problem you solve, and review what drove clicks and messages every week. Our guide to social media content calendars shows how to plan that month, and the social media management guide for startups covers the rest of the routine.
Social posts work best next to the other channels: make graphics with one of the free Canva Pro alternatives, answer DMs automatically with the tools in ManyChat vs Chatfuel, and move followers into email with the tools in Autopilot vs MailerLite. Before you spend on promotion, validate your startup idea.
