Keyword Tool vs Keyworddit: Paid Multi-Platform Keyword Generator or Free Reddit Keyword Finder?
Most keyword tools show you what people type into Google. Reddit shows you how people actually talk about a problem, in their own words, before they ever search for a product. Keyword Tool (keywordtool.io) and Keyworddit both help a startup find those words, but they work very differently: Keyword Tool turns one seed keyword into hundreds of autocomplete suggestions on 17 platforms, Reddit included, while Keyworddit pulls keywords out of the comments of a single subreddit. We checked both tools on their official pages and ran our own test on 28 October 2026.
Quick answer: use Keyworddit when you want a free list of the phrases one community uses, with US search volumes and no account. Use Keyword Tool when you need long-tail keywords for Google, YouTube, Amazon, TikTok or Reddit in many countries and languages; its ideas are free, but search volume, CPC and competition for every keyword start at $68 a month on annual billing. Many founders use both: Keyworddit to learn the language, Keyword Tool to scale it.

What Is Keyworddit?
Keyworddit is a free Reddit keyword research tool. You start typing the name of a subreddit, pick it from the list and click "Get Keywords"; the tool extracts keywords from that subreddit's comments and shows them in a table with three columns: the keyword, its monthly search volume in the US, and a Context link that opens a Google search for the phrase on that subreddit, so you can see how people use it. You can export the list as a CSV file. There is no account and no paid plan.
- Who runs it: the old keyworddit.com address now redirects to a page on highervisibility.com, the website of HigherVisibility, a US digital marketing agency. The tool itself still works; the page around it advertises the agency's services.
- Where the numbers come from: its FAQ says the volumes come from Grepwords, a third-party keyword database. They are US volumes only, and the page does not say how often they are updated.
- Which subreddits work: only subreddits that appear in its suggestion list. Its FAQ says subreddits under 10,000 subscribers are too small, and active subreddits with many comments return more keywords.
- What you do not get: no CPC, no competition score, no trends, no other countries or languages.
Our test (28 October 2026): r/startups returned 107 keywords, each with a US volume, from "open source software" (9,900 a month) and "minimum viable product" (2,900) down to phrases with 10 searches. Many results were generic phrases such as "how much money", so plan to filter the list by hand.
Best for: learning the vocabulary of one niche community for free, finding article topics and building audience personas.
What Is Keyword Tool?
Keyword Tool builds keyword lists from autocomplete: it adds letters and numbers before and after your seed keyword and collects what each platform suggests. It covers 17 platforms: Google, YouTube, Bing, Copilot, Perplexity, Amazon, eBay, the App Store, Google Play, Instagram, X, Reddit, Pinterest, Etsy, TikTok, Naver and Google Trends. The free version works without an account and uses 190+ Google domains and 120+ language interfaces.
- Free version: up to 750+ keyword ideas per search, with search volume for only some keywords. CPC, competition and trends are hidden.
- Keyword Tool Pro: on the pricing page Starter costs $88 a month ($68 billed annually), Growth $188 ($148), Scale $388 ($308) and Agency $788 ($628). The plans differ in daily requests (50 to 400) and trend history (12 to 48 months). There is no free trial, but there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Where the numbers come from: Google and Bing volumes come from Google's and Bing's own keyword planners; volumes for the other platforms, Reddit included, are estimates based on clickstream data.
- Bulk and automation: paid plans check search volume for up to 1,000 pasted keywords at once and include the API and an MCP server, so AI assistants can pull the same data.
Best for: long-tail keywords in many countries and languages, and startups whose customers search on YouTube, Amazon, Etsy or TikTok as well as Google.
Keyword Tool's Reddit Mode vs Keyworddit
Keyword Tool now has its own Reddit keyword tool, so the real comparison is Reddit against Reddit. The two collect different data:
- Keyword Tool (Reddit): you type a seed keyword, pick a country and language, and it collects Reddit's own search suggestions, the phrases people type into Reddit's search box. Results are split into Keywords, Communities (the subreddits those searches point to) and Profiles. The ideas are free; search volume and trends need Pro, and Reddit volumes are estimates.
- Keyworddit: you choose a subreddit and it pulls keywords from what people write in its comments, then adds US Google search volume for free.
In practice, Keyword Tool helps you find which communities discuss your topic, and Keyworddit shows you how one of those communities talks and which of its phrases people also search for on Google.

What Changed Since the Previous Version
- Keyworddit moved: keyworddit.com now redirects to the HigherVisibility website. It is still free and still works, so we kept it.
- Keyword Tool grew: the earlier version of this article said it supported over 40 languages; today the free version offers 120+ Google language interfaces, and the tool covers 17 platforms, including Reddit, Perplexity and Copilot.
- Keyword Tool's pricing: plans now start at $88 a month ($68 billed annually), and every paid plan includes the API and MCP access.
- Removed: general claims about Semrush and Ahrefs that relied on third-party blog posts. Our own comparisons of those tools are linked below.
Which One Should You Choose?
- You have no budget: Keyworddit for subreddit keywords with US volumes, plus Keyword Tool's free version for long-tail ideas. Both are free and need no account.
- Your customers hang out in a big subreddit: Keyworddit, to learn their words and the questions they ask.
- You do not know which subreddits matter: Keyword Tool's Reddit mode, which points you to the communities around your topic.
- You sell outside the US or in other languages: Keyword Tool, because Keyworddit only shows US volumes.
- You need CPC, competition or trends: Keyword Tool Pro, or Google Keyword Planner for free; see our Keyword Tool vs Keyword Planner comparison.
- You build automations or AI workflows: Keyword Tool, whose API and MCP server come with every paid plan.

How Founders Use Reddit Keywords
- Find the communities. Search your topic in Keyword Tool's Reddit mode and note the subreddits in the Communities tab.
- Pull the subreddit's keywords. Run the biggest active subreddit through Keyworddit and export the CSV.
- Read the context. Open the Context link for promising phrases and read the threads: complaints and repeated questions are content and product ideas.
- Check demand and cost. Paste the shortlist into Google Keyword Planner or Keyword Tool Pro for volume, CPC and competition, then pick specific long-tail phrases; our guide to finding long-tail keywords shows how.
- Write the answer. Turn each real question into an article, an FAQ or a landing page section, written in the community's own words.
Reddit threads are also a cheap way to test an idea before you build: if a problem keeps coming up and nobody solves it well, that is a signal worth checking with real customers.
