KWFinder vs Rank Tracker (2027): Cloud Keyword Research or a Desktop Rank Tracker for Your Startup?

KWFinder vs Rank Tracker: Cloud Keyword Research or a Desktop Rank Tracker for Your Startup?

KWFinder and Rank Tracker are often listed side by side, but they are built for two different jobs and sold in two different ways. KWFinder by Mangools is a keyword research tool in the browser: it finds long-tail keywords with real search volume and low difficulty, and you pay a subscription for the whole Mangools bundle. Rank Tracker is a desktop app from SEO PowerSuite (made by Link-Assistant.Com) that you install on Windows, macOS or Linux; it tracks as many keywords as you like in hundreds of search engines and comes with its own keyword research module, for a yearly licence. We checked both on their official pages in November 2026 and compared them for a startup deciding where its first SEO money goes.
Quick answer: if you are still choosing what to write about, choose KWFinder: the free plan gives 5 lookups a day, and Mangools Basic costs €37.70 a month on yearly billing (€452.40 a year) with 100 keyword lookups a day and a weekly tracker for 200 keywords. If you already have pages and want to watch many keywords cheaply, choose Rank Tracker: Professional costs €179 a year with no keyword limit, though it runs on your own computer. Both have a free option, so test them on your own keywords first.

The Two Tools in 2027

KWFinder: find keywords a young website can win

KWFinder promises to find long-tail keywords with low SEO difficulty, and that is still its job. You type a keyword, or switch to search by domain to see what a competitor ranks for, pick a location and a language, and get related keywords with exact search volumes and their history, so you can spot seasonal topics. Each keyword gets Mangools' keyword difficulty (KD) score, and the search results load next to the list with SEO metrics for every ranking page, so you see at once whether small sites rank. Mangools says KWFinder draws on 2.5 billion related keywords in more than 65,000 locations, from countries down to cities.

What KWFinder costs

You cannot buy KWFinder on its own. The Mangools FAQ says its tools are not sold separately, because the KD score is based on data from SERPChecker. Every plan includes KWFinder, SERPChecker, SERPWatcher (rank tracking), LinkMiner, SiteProfiler and AI Search Watcher PRO, plus API and MCP access. The Mangools pricing page opens on yearly billing ("save ~35%"):
  • Free plan: no credit card; 5 lookups per 24 hours, with 15 related and 5 competitor keywords per lookup. Enough to test it on your own niche.
  • Basic, €37.70 a month (€452.40 a year): 100 keyword lookups and 100 SERP lookups per 24 hours, 200 suggestions per search, 200 tracked keywords updated weekly, 100,000 backlink rows a month, no extra seats. The crossed-out yearly price on monthly billing is €732.00.
  • Premium, €52.70 a month (€632.40 a year): 500 lookups a day, unlimited suggestions, 700 tracked keywords updated weekly and 3 extra seats.
  • Agency, €97.70 a month (€1,172.40 a year): 1,200 lookups a day, 1,500 tracked keywords updated daily and 5 extra seats.
  • Refunds: a full refund within 48 hours of payment. Monthly plans also exist; their price sits behind the toggle, so we leave it out.
Best for: founders and content writers who are choosing what to write about and want a quick answer to "can my site rank for this?" before spending a day on an article.

Rank Tracker by SEO PowerSuite: unlimited keywords on your own computer

Rank Tracker is one of four desktop apps in SEO PowerSuite, next to WebSite Auditor, SEO SpyGlass and LinkAssistant. You download it for Windows, macOS or Linux, and Link-Assistant says it serves around 20,000 users a month. Instead of a monthly allowance of lookups or tracked keywords, you pay for features, and the number of keywords, sites and locations is unlimited. What it does:
  • Rank tracking in many search engines: desktop and mobile positions in Google, Bing, Yahoo, YouTube and Yandex. The Rank Tracker page says over 597 search engines; the pricing table says 400+.
  • Local checks: rankings for a country, state, city or exact street address, plus Google Maps listings.
  • History and competitors: ranking history for single keywords or groups, and 1, 5 or 40 tracked competitors per project, depending on the licence.
  • Keyword research in the same app: ranking keywords, Google and Amazon suggestions, related searches and questions, Google Ads Keyword Planner, a Keyword Gap tool, TF-IDF analysis and YouTube autocomplete. It groups ideas by topic and shows search volume, competition, keyword difficulty and expected visits.
  • Google data: it connects Google Analytics and Search Console, so you can pull in the keywords you already get clicks for.

What Rank Tracker costs

The SEO PowerSuite pricing page sells Rank Tracker on its own or inside the full suite. Every plan is billed once a year on the default 1-year view (2-year plans save 20% and 3-year plans 34%):
  • Free, €0: for unlimited evaluation, with 1 competitor per project, but without saving projects, scheduled tasks, captcha-free checks, copying data or printing reports. Fine for a one-off check, not for tracking progress over months.
  • Rank Tracker Professional, €179 a year: for in-house use. 5 competitors per project, unlimited saved projects, scheduled tasks, captcha-free checks and printed reports with a watermark.
  • Rank Tracker Enterprise, €419 a year: for client work. 40 competitors per project, plus saving, emailing and scheduling reports.
  • SEO PowerSuite bundle: all four apps, adding a site auditor and backlink tools, for €349 (Professional, shown as €29.10 a month), €599 (Enterprise) or €899 (Max +) a year. Every edition lists Google AI Overviews tracking.
  • Refunds: you can cancel any time, but Link-Assistant does not refund partial use. Test the free version first.
Best for: founders with pages that already rank who want to watch hundreds of keywords, several markets or Bing and YouTube without paying per keyword, and who are happy to run software on their own computer.

Cloud Subscription vs Desktop Licence: What the Difference Means for a Startup

  • For keyword research: KWFinder is the faster and simpler finder. Its difficulty score sits next to the live search results, and search by domain shows a competitor's keywords in seconds. Rank Tracker pulls ideas from many sources, including Google's Keyword Planner, but it is a bigger tool to learn.
  • For rank tracking: Rank Tracker wins clearly. It has no keyword limit, while Mangools Basic tracks 200 keywords weekly, and Rank Tracker covers Bing, Yahoo, YouTube and regional engines; Mangools tracks Google.
  • Price: Rank Tracker Professional costs €179 a year, Mangools Basic €452.40 a year. Mangools' price also covers backlink, SERP and AI search tools; Rank Tracker's covers unlimited tracking.
  • Where the work happens: Mangools runs in any browser and updates rankings on its servers. Rank Tracker runs on your computer: scheduled checks need the app and the machine to be on, and you share results as reports.
  • Trying before paying: KWFinder's free plan limits you to 5 lookups a day; Rank Tracker's free version has no time limit but does not save your projects.
  • Using both: KWFinder for research and Rank Tracker Professional for tracking cost €631.40 a year on the entry plans (our sum of €452.40 and €179).

What Changed Since the Earlier Version of This Article

  • Real prices instead of vague tiers: the old text called KWFinder an "affordable subscription" and said Rank Tracker "can get pricier". Both are now priced above, and Rank Tracker Professional (€179 a year) is the cheaper one.
  • "Real-time" tracking: Rank Tracker checks rankings when you run or schedule a check; it is not a live feed.
  • KWFinder is a bundle: Mangools sells only the full suite, which now includes AI Search Watcher PRO and API and MCP access.
  • Rank Tracker does keyword research too: the old post treated it as a tracker only; its keyword module now pulls ideas from Google's Keyword Planner, suggestions, related questions and a Keyword Gap tool.
  • Removed: invented use-case stories, a generic "common mistakes" list and links to third-party review blogs; this version links the official pages.
A note on names: in this article Rank Tracker means the SEO PowerSuite desktop app by Link-Assistant.Com. Other web tools with similar names are different products.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • Pre-launch or fewer than 10 articles: KWFinder. You first need to know what to write. Start on the free plan and move to Mangools Basic when 5 lookups a day are not enough.
  • You track hundreds of keywords on a small budget: Rank Tracker Professional, €179 a year with no keyword limit.
  • You sell in markets where Bing, Yahoo, YouTube or Yandex matter: Rank Tracker.
  • You work from a Chromebook, a tablet or several computers: KWFinder, because it runs in the browser.
  • You publish every week and track what you publish: both, for about €631 a year on the entry plans.
  • You are not ready to pay: KWFinder's free plan for research, the free Rank Tracker version for one-off checks, and Google Search Console for your average positions.

How Founders Use KWFinder and Rank Tracker
