Free Miro AI Alternatives (2027): 8 Whiteboards With Free AI for Sticky Notes, Diagrams and Summaries, Limits Checked

Free Miro AI Alternatives: Whiteboards That Sort Sticky Notes, Draw Diagrams and Summarise Boards for Free

Miro AI clusters sticky notes, turns a prompt into a diagram and summarises a messy board, but on Miro's free plan you only get a small taste of it. Several other whiteboards include AI on their free plans, some with far more room. We checked every tool below on its official pricing and AI pages in October 2026: which AI features the free plan really includes, how much AI you get for free, how many boards you can edit and what the first paid plan costs. Tools whose AI is only on paid plans are listed separately at the end. This list is about free plans with AI. For free whiteboards in general, see our free Miro alternatives, and to run AI with your own key or a local model, our open-source Miro AI alternatives.
Quick answer: for the most free AI on a whiteboard, use Lucidspark (Lucid AI is currently free for all users) or FigJam AI (up to 500 AI credits a month on the free plan); for prompt-to-diagram without a board limit, use Excalidraw (10 AI requests a day) or draw.io Generate; for marketing brainstorms, use Canva Whiteboards and its AI Sort; and for technical diagrams, try Eraser, knowing its free plan is small.

What Miro AI Gives You for Free in 2027

To know what you are replacing: the Miro pricing page (checked October 2026) says the Free plan lets you "Explore AI": generate diagrams, tables and summaries, remove image backgrounds and connect tools such as Claude, Cursor or Copilot through Miro's MCP server, with 100 MCP calls a day. Miro's FAQ puts the free allowance at 10 AI credits a month, and the plan table calls AI on Free a limited trial. For scale: Miro says the Starter plan's 25 credits are about 12 document summaries or 5 diagrams a month, so 10 credits go quickly. Starter costs $8 and Business $20 per member per month (billed yearly), with 25 and 50 AI credits per member. The Free plan also stops at 3 editable boards. Every tool below is compared against that.

The Best Free Miro AI Alternatives in 2027

1. Lucidspark: the most AI on a free whiteboard, for now

Lucidspark is Lucid's virtual whiteboard. Its Free plan includes 3 editable boards with unlimited shapes per board, freehand drawing, commenting, presentation mode, Sort, Gather and Lucid AI. On Lucid's AI page the AI can generate a whole board for a brainstorm or retrospective, generate ideas and sort them into containers by theme, summarise what is on the canvas and grow the branches of a mind map from one central idea. Lucid says it uses Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service and AWS Bedrock and does not use customer data to train third-party models. The catch is in a footnote: Lucid's AI is currently available to all users but may move to a paid subscription later. Voting, timers and facilitator tools start on the Team plan; Individual, with unlimited boards, costs €9 a month billed annually (the price Lucid showed us).

2. FigJam AI: generate, sort and summarise on Figma's free plan

FigJam AI generates ready-to-use boards for team syncs, brainstorms, retros, timelines and org charts from a prompt, sorts stickies into groups and summarises them into takeaways and next steps. On the Figma pricing page, Summarize, Generate and Sort are all included on the free Starter plan, which comes with 150 AI credits a day, up to 500 a month. The board limit is the real constraint: according to Figma's Starter plan overview, a free team has 3 FigJam files in its folder, and drafts can only be shared with view access. Voting needs a paid plan. The cheapest upgrade is a Collab seat, listed at $3 a month with 500 AI credits, which includes full FigJam access. Choose it if your team already designs in Figma.

3. Excalidraw: free text to diagram on a whiteboard with no board limit

Excalidraw is an open-source whiteboard with a hand-drawn look. In the free editor, Text to diagram turns a sentence into editable shapes, and you get 10 AI requests a day. Its Mermaid to Excalidraw converter turns Mermaid code into native shapes with no AI and no request limit, so you can also ask ChatGPT or Claude for Mermaid and paste it in for free. The Excalidraw pricing page lists the free plan with the full editor, unlimited collaborators and one infinite scene; you can save more boards as files. Excalidraw+ costs $6 per user per month after a 14-day trial and gives 100 AI requests a day, or lets an admin plug in a key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Grok or OpenRouter, plus an MCP server and API in public beta.

4. Canva Whiteboards: unlimited free boards with AI Sort

Canva Whiteboards gives you infinite whiteboards for free, with templates, a Draw tool, reactions, a timer and real-time collaboration. Its Sort tool, which Canva describes as AI-powered, groups sticky notes by colour, author name or topic in one click, and it is included on the free plan. When the brainstorm is done, you can turn the whiteboard into a presentation or a doc. For other AI tools, the Canva pricing page gives Canva Free limited access to its Standard and Premium AI tools from a shared monthly allowance; Canva Pro has 10 times that allowance and cost €110 a year when we checked. Choose it for marketing and content brainstorms; for complex diagrams, a dedicated tool is stronger.

5. draw.io Generate: free prompt-to-diagram for business diagrams

draw.io is a free diagram editor, and its Generate tool turns a description into a diagram you can edit like any other. Open Insert > Generate (or + > Generate), start the prompt with the diagram type (for example "flowchart" or "org chart") because that decides which AI generator is used, and add the preview to the canvas. By default draw.io sends the request through its public backend; its AI configuration guide explains how to use your own ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude key instead, or switch AI off. There is no account and no board limit. It is a diagramming tool rather than a sticky-note whiteboard, so it replaces Miro AI's diagram generator rather than Miro's workshops.

6. Whimsical AI: flowcharts, mind maps and wireframes from a prompt

Whimsical AI turns a prompt into a flowchart, a branched mind map or editable wireframes, and the Whimsical Agent also answers questions about your workspace. Through its MCP server you can use Whimsical from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex. The free plan is for evaluation: the Whimsical pricing page lists 50 board objects and 50 doc blocks per month, a watermark on exports and 7-day version history, and its FAQ says Free includes 10 AI credits per member. Pro costs $10 per editor per month billed annually and removes the object limit. Good for trying AI flowcharts; too small for regular free use.

7. ClickUp Whiteboards: AI flowcharts next to your tasks

ClickUp Whiteboards sit inside ClickUp's project management workspace, so shapes and sticky notes can become tracked tasks. ClickUp says its AI, ClickUp Brain, produces editable flowcharts and process maps from prompts or from your docs and SOPs. On the ClickUp pricing page, Free Forever includes 3 whiteboards, 60 MB of storage, unlimited free members and a ClickUp Brain trial of 500 AI credits per workspace. Core costs $9 per user per month billed yearly ($12 monthly). One note of caution: ClickUp's public feedback board marked full prompt-to-diagram generation on the canvas as "building now" in March 2026, so test what the trial credits do for you before you rely on it.

8. Eraser: AI diagrams for technical teams

Eraser is built for technical design: describe a cloud architecture, database or sequence diagram, or paste in some code, and Eraser AI draws it on an infinite canvas. You can then change it with more prompts, by editing the diagram-as-code, or by hand, and the AI also drafts outlines for design documents. Eraser says it never uses your data to train models. The free plan is small: the Eraser pricing page lists 3 files, 3 AI credits, 7-day version history and unlimited guests. Business costs $45 per member per month billed annually ($60 monthly) with 100 AI credits a month. Use the free plan to test it on one real system diagram.

Old Picks and Miro AI Alternatives Without Free AI

The 2025 version of this article listed ten tools, and several popular whiteboards keep their AI for paying customers:
  • Mural: its Mural AI page says Mural AI (clustering, summaries, mind maps) is included with Team+, Business and Enterprise, not with Free. Team+ costs $9.99 per member per month billed annually.
  • Boardmix: the free plan has 3 editable boards and 100 objects per board but no AI tools listed on its pricing page; AI Starter costs $10 per member per month billed annually.
  • Microsoft Whiteboard: Copilot in Whiteboard needs a Microsoft Copilot licence, and Microsoft retired the standalone Whiteboard apps on 16 October 2026 (work and school accounts keep it in Teams and on the web).
  • Nuclino: its AI, Sidekick, is on the Business plan only; the free plan has up to 50 items and 3 canvases.
  • Lucidchart: replaced on this list by Lucidspark, Lucid's whiteboard, which has the same Lucid AI.
  • Mindomo and Creately: Mindomo's free plan has 3 mind maps and trial AI credits (Premium includes 50 AI credits a month); Creately's free plan includes its AI tools but caps diagrams at 45 shapes. Both are better as mind map or diagram tools than as Miro replacements.
  • oSlate: still a free online whiteboard, but we found no AI features on its website.

How Founders Use a Free AI Whiteboard

For an early-stage startup, AI on the board is most useful for the boring first draft: paste customer interview notes and let the AI sort them into themes, turn a feature list into a user flow, or ask for a first customer journey map, then fix it by hand. Start with your business model: our Lean Canvas tool does it for free. Then use one board per experiment and summarise each one before the next team call. For running the sessions, see these brainstorming tools for startups and the collaboration tools for remote startups. If your team outgrows the free plan, check whether you qualify for the Miro for Startups programme.
When the board turns into tasks and docs, our open-source Notion alternatives with AI and open-source Trello alternatives with AI cover the next step.
