Free Motion Alternatives (2027): 12 AI Schedulers, Day Planners and Project Tools With Real Free Plans, Auto-Scheduling Checked

Free Motion Alternatives: AI Schedulers and Planners You Can Use Without Paying

Motion plans your day for you: it takes your tasks, deadlines and meetings and fits them into your calendar automatically. That is exactly why founders love it, and why the bill hurts: Motion has no free plan, only a free trial. The good news is that some tools now auto-schedule tasks for free, and many more let you time-block your day by hand at no cost. We checked every free plan below on the tool's own pricing or help page in October 2026, and we say clearly which free plans really include AI auto-scheduling and which do not.
Quick answer: if you want Motion-style auto-scheduling for free, use Reclaim.ai (free Lite plan, schedules tasks, habits and focus time up to one week ahead) or Trevor AI (free plan with auto-scheduling on one Google or Microsoft calendar). If you are happy to drag tasks into your day yourself, Structured, TickTick, Notion Calendar and the open-source Super Productivity are free. For Motion's project side, Freedcamp gives unlimited users and projects for free. Akiflow, Sunsama, Morgen and Amie are paid tools with trials, not free alternatives.

What Motion Costs in 2027, and Why There Is No Free Plan

Motion now calls itself an AI productivity platform: AI projects, tasks, calendar, meetings, docs, notes, reports and workflows in one app. Its pricing page (checked 29 October 2026) offers a free trial but no free plan. For one person, Pro AI costs $29 a month billed annually or $49 month to month, and Business AI $39 a month billed annually or $69 monthly. Team prices are per seat: Pro AI $19 a month billed annually ($29 monthly) and Business AI $29 ($49 monthly). Each plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits: 7,500 per seat on Pro AI and 15,000 on Business AI. Timeline and Gantt charts, time tracking and team capacity planning are on Business AI.
So a free Motion alternative has to replace one of two things: the auto-scheduling calendar or the project manager. Very few free tools do both, which is why we split the list. If your team mainly needs shared projects rather than auto-scheduling, see our free Flow alternatives, with the free plan limits of team project tools.

Free Motion Alternatives With AI Auto-Scheduling

1. Reclaim.ai: the closest free replacement for Motion's AI calendar

Reclaim.ai, now part of Dropbox, works on top of your Google Calendar or Outlook calendar. Its free Lite plan is free forever for one user and includes 5 AI agents for focus time, habits, buffer time and smart meetings, task time-blocking, one calendar sync, one scheduling link and two connected calendars. The main limit is the scheduling range: on Lite, Reclaim plans only one week ahead (8 weeks on Starter). Free integrations are Google Tasks, Slack, Zoom and Google Meet; syncing tasks from Todoist, Asana, ClickUp, Jira or Linear needs a paid plan. Starter costs $10 per seat a month billed yearly ($12 monthly), and Reclaim offers 20% off for six months to customers switching from Motion, Clockwise or Calendly.
Best for: founders who live in Google Calendar or Outlook and want focus time and tasks scheduled automatically, for free.

2. Trevor AI: a free AI day planner with auto-scheduling

Trevor AI combines a task list with a calendar view. Its free plan for personal use includes unlimited task scheduling with drag and drop, auto-scheduling and in-schedule suggestions, AI-predicted task durations, and real-time sync with one Google or Microsoft calendar account. You can bring tasks in from task managers such as Todoist. Pro adds multiple calendar accounts, recurring tasks, a scheduling queue and a personal AI model, from $5 a month paid annually or $6 monthly (the page notes the price may include a sign-up discount).
Best for: solo founders who want Motion's "plan my day" feeling on one calendar without paying.

3. ClickUp: free projects and calendar, with AI scheduling to test

ClickUp is the closest all-in-one match for Motion's projects, tasks and docs. Its Free Forever plan allows unlimited members, includes the calendar view, 500 AI credits per workspace, 5 active automations with 100 automation actions a month and 60MB of file storage; Gantt is trial only. ClickUp's calendar page says its calendar "auto-blocks focus time and reschedules tasks", but the pricing page does not say whether that works on the free plan, so test it before you rely on it. Compare it in Asana vs ClickUp and Notion vs ClickUp.
Best for: small teams that want projects, docs and a calendar in one free tool.

Free Planners for Time Blocking by Hand

These tools do not plan your day for you on the free plan, but they make time blocking quick. Many founders find that five minutes of planning each morning does most of what Motion does.

4. Structured: a visual day planner for your phone

Structured shows your day as one timeline of tasks. According to its help centre, the free version includes timeline, all-day and inbox tasks, subtasks, notes, colours and drag and drop, with sync across devices. Calendar import, recurring tasks, Structured AI and Replan (which moves missed tasks) need Structured Pro, sold as a subscription or one-time purchase. It runs on iOS, Android and the web.
Best for: people who plan on their phone and like to see the day as a visual timeline.

5. TickTick: tasks plus a free basic calendar

TickTick's free plan includes 9 lists, 99 tasks per list and a basic calendar view where you can drag tasks into your day. Multiple calendar views come with Premium, at US$49.99 a year. It works on the web, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. See our list of free Todoist alternatives for more to-do apps with real free plans.

6. Notion Calendar: a free calendar connected to your Notion workspace

Notion Calendar is free and works with Google Calendar, Outlook and iCloud calendars. It shows Notion database items next to your events, lets you share scheduling links and can block busy slots across all your calendars automatically. It does not auto-schedule tasks. On Notion's free plan, Notion AI is only a trial. For self-hosted options, see our list of open-source Notion AI alternatives.

7. Super Productivity: free, open source, with time-boxing

Super Productivity is a free, open-source task app that needs no account and keeps your data on your device. You can bring in your calendar and time-box your tasks, track time with timesheets, use a Pomodoro timer and connect Jira, GitHub or GitLab. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and the web, and version 19.3.1 came out on 25 October 2026. It is a solo tool, with no team features.

Free Project Managers to Replace Motion's Projects

If your team used Motion mainly for projects and deadlines, a free project tool plus a free calendar app often covers it.

8. Asana: unlimited projects for one or two people

Asana's free Personal plan includes unlimited tasks and projects with list, board and calendar views, but only for 2 users. Timeline and Gantt views start on Starter, at $10.99 per user a month billed annually. See Todoist vs Asana and our older list of free Asana alternatives.

9. Trello: free boards for a team of up to 10

Trello's free plan has unlimited cards, up to 10 boards and up to 10 collaborators per Workspace. It is a visual board, not a scheduler. Compare it in Trello vs Asana, or see open-source Trello alternatives with AI.

10. Freedcamp: unlimited users and projects for free

Freedcamp is the most generous free project manager here: unlimited projects, tasks, storage (under a fair-use policy) and users, with a calendar and a 10MB limit per file. Paid plans start at $1.49 per user a month billed annually (Pro).
Best for: a growing team that needs shared projects and a calendar without paying per seat.

11. Plaky: free boards for unlimited users

Plaky's free plan allows unlimited users, spaces, boards and items, with 6 fields per board and a 10MB limit per file. Automations, the timeline field and the Gantt view are paid, from $3.99 per seat a month billed annually.

12. Todoist: a simple task list to pair with a calendar

Todoist does not auto-schedule. Its free Beginner plan gives you 5 personal projects and 3 filter views; the calendar layout needs Pro, at $5 a month billed yearly. It pairs well with an AI scheduler, but note that Reclaim's Todoist sync is a paid feature, while Trevor AI's free plan can pull in Todoist tasks. See ClickUp vs Todoist.

Motion Alternatives That Have No Free Plan

These tools are often listed as free Motion alternatives, but when we checked, none of them had a free plan:
  • Akiflow: its pricing page says it has no free plan. A 7-day trial needs a card; Pro costs $19 a month billed yearly or $34 monthly.
  • Sunsama: a daily planner with a 14-day trial and no card required. Its pricing page says it does not have a free forever plan and does not plan to.
  • Morgen: a 14-day trial with no card, then $15 a month billed yearly or $30 monthly for individuals. It offers 15% off to people switching from a competitor.
  • Amie: a calendar with to-dos, meeting notes and AI scheduling; a 7-day trial, then Pro or Business plans.
  • SkedPal: an auto-scheduler with a 14-day trial and no card; Core $9.95 and Pro $14.95 a month billed annually.
  • Routine: it has a free plan for tasks, calendar and notes, but time blocking starts on the Personal plan at $5 a month.

What Changed Since Our 2025 List

  • Clockwise shut down: Clockwise, one of the best-known free AI calendars, says its product is no longer available from 27 March 2026 and user data is deleted shortly after.
  • Motion changed: it is now sold as an AI work platform with AI credits per seat, and still has no free plan.
  • Notion: we now list Notion Calendar, the free calendar app, instead of the Notion workspace, whose AI is only a trial on the free plan.
  • Left out: ProProfs Project (free for up to 3 users), Hubstaff Tasks (free for up to 5 users) and nTask (projects and Gantt charts need a paid plan). They are project tools with no scheduling, so they do not replace Motion's main feature.
  • New: Reclaim.ai, Trevor AI, Structured, TickTick, Notion Calendar and Super Productivity, which are much closer to how Motion is actually used.

Which Free Motion Alternative Should You Choose?

  • You want tasks scheduled into your calendar automatically: Reclaim.ai, or Trevor AI if you use one calendar account.
  • You want to protect focus time and habits around meetings: Reclaim.ai's free Lite plan.
  • You plan your day on your phone: Structured or TickTick.
  • Your notes and projects are in Notion: Notion Calendar.

How Founders Use AI Scheduling Without Paying for Motion

Most founders do not need a full AI work platform. A simple free stack works: keep tasks in one app, let a free scheduler such as Reclaim.ai or Trevor AI put the most important ones into your calendar, and protect two or three focus blocks a week for the work that moves the company. Review the plan every Friday. Our list of productivity tools for startups and these healthy habits for startup founders help keep that rhythm sustainable.
When the team grows, you will need more than a calendar. We have checked free Miro alternatives for planning sessions, open-source Airtable alternatives with AI for databases, open-source Zapier alternatives to connect your tools, and free ClickUp AI alternatives and free Trello alternatives for project work.
