Startup Competitions in Europe (2027): 14 Pitch Competitions for Early-Stage Founders With Prizes, Rules and Deadlines

Startup competitions in Europe 2027: 14 pitch competitions for early-stage founders

Startup Competitions in Europe for Early-Stage Founders: Prizes, Rules and 2027 Deadlines

Europe has some of the richest startup competitions in the world, and several of them pay out without taking any equity. A good competition gives an early-stage founder a deadline that sharpens the pitch, a stage in front of investors and journalists, and sometimes six-figure prize money. A weak one costs you a ticket and a week of work. We checked every startup and pitch competition below on its official website in October 2026: the prize, whether it is equity-free, who can apply, and the next date or application deadline. When an official page does not show 2027 dates yet, we say so instead of guessing. Competitions and events from the 2025 version of this article that ended, changed or are not really competitions are listed in a separate section.
Quick answer: for the biggest equity-free prize, aim for Slush 100 in Helsinki (€500,000 to the winner in 2026); for the nearest deadlines, apply to the Hello Tomorrow Challenge for deep tech (30 November 2026) and the European Prize for Women Innovators (€100,000, 1 December 2026); then the EU-Startups Summit pitch competition in Malta (applications from December 2026, finals 13-14 May 2027) and the free South Summit Startup Competition in Madrid (apply by 31 January 2027). For a smaller cash prize with a big audience, look at the 4YFN Awards in Barcelona (€20,000).

  • S+T+ARTS Prize: an art-and-technology prize for artists and their projects, run with Ars Electronica, not a startup pitch competition. We could not confirm the old "€20,000 per category" figure, and no 2027 call is published yet.

  • Tech.eu Summit: a conference for founders and investors in London, not a competition.

  • Austrian Startup Summit: the AustrianStartups Summit 2026 took place on 15 October 2026 in Vienna as a summit, not a pitch competition. AustrianStartups co-runs Startup World Cup Austria.
  • PropTech Startup Europe Awards: the official page still shows the 2025 edition (applications 21 May to 31 October 2025); we found no newer edition, so we removed it.
  • Web Summit ALPHA: the competition at Web Summit is PITCH (see above); the startup programme is the way in.
  • Skinnovation: an event in Innsbruck (10-12 March 2027, according to Startup World Cup Austria's prize list); we found no pitch competition with a published prize.
  • European Social Innovation Competition: the EIC page shows the 2024 edition (winners announced on 11 March 2025) as the latest; no newer edition is announced.
  • Old prize figures: the 2025 list gave €1 million for Slush 100 and for Latitude59; the official pages show €500,000 (Slush 100, 2026) and more than €400,000 in investment (Latitude59, 2026).

Which Startup Competition Should You Enter?

How Founders Use European Startup Competitions to Raise Money

A competition is rarely the whole round, but it is a strong way to start one. Use the deadline to finish your deck: our guide to a fundraising pitch deck that tells a story helps, and you can practise the short version with an elevator pitch generator. Then turn the judges and investors in the room into meetings: the early-stage VC firms that write pre-seed and seed cheques and, for hard tech, the deep tech VCs in Europe are your follow-up list. Avoid the classic pre-seed fundraising mistakes, such as pitching investors at the wrong stage.
Most competitions sit inside a bigger event, so plan the trip with our guides to startup events in Helsinki, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin. If you are still choosing where to base the company, compare the best countries for startups in Europe and the deep tech cities in Europe, and if you want months of support rather than a one-day pitch, see our list of startup incubators in Europe. For non-dilutive money beyond prizes, read our overview of European funds for startups; Grant Grants explains prize competitions and innovation challenges and equity-free funding. After a win, pitch the story to the startup media outlets in Europe.
