Free Flow Alternatives (2027): Flow Has Shut Down, So Here Are 11 Free Project Management Tools for Teams, Limits Checked

Flow Has Shut Down: Free Project Management Tools for Teams That Used It

Flow, the task and project management app for teams at getflow.com, no longer exists. Its own website announced that GetFlow would shut down on 10 October 2025, and the getflow.com domain now belongs to an unrelated AI writing tool that has no access to old Flow accounts or data. If your team used Flow, or you found it on an old list of project management tools, you need a replacement. Flow also never had a free plan: it offered a 30-day trial and then charged per user, so every tool below is a cheaper option as well as a working one. We checked the free plan of each tool on its official pricing page on 29 October 2026 and wrote down the limits a small team actually runs into: people, projects and storage.
Quick answer: for the most generous free plan, use Freedcamp (unlimited users, projects and storage) or Plaky (unlimited users and boards); for an all-in-one workspace, use ClickUp (unlimited members, but only 60MB of storage); for simple boards for up to 10 people, use Trello; and if you want no limits at all and can run a server, self-host Plane or OpenProject.

What Happened to Flow?

Flow was modern task and project management software for teams, with tasks, projects, Kanban boards, timelines and team chat in one app. According to an archived copy of Flow's pricing page from July 2025, it had no free plan: new teams got a 30-day free trial of the Pro plan, after which Basic cost $6, Plus $8 and Pro $10 per user a month. In September 2025 the homepage carried the notice that GetFlow would shut down on 10 October 2025.
Today getflow.com shows a different product called Getflow, a set of AI tools for summarising, rewriting and converting documents. Its about page says the domain previously hosted a different product and that the new service is not connected to it. So there is nothing to sign up for: if you still have Flow exports, the steps chart below shows how to move them to a new tool.

The Best Free Flow Alternatives in 2027

1. Freedcamp: unlimited users, projects and storage for free

Freedcamp has the most generous free plan on this list. According to its pricing page, the free plan includes unlimited projects, tasks, storage and users, with storage subject to a fair usage policy and a 10MB limit per file. The core apps (tasks, discussions, calendar, files, milestones, time and passwords) are in every plan. Subtasks start on Pro, which costs $1.49 per user a month billed annually ($2.49 monthly). Collaborators such as clients count as free users on paid plans.
Best for: a team that used Flow for many projects at once and does not want to count seats.

2. Plaky: free for unlimited users and boards

Plaky is a board-and-table project tool from CAKE.com, the company behind Clockify. Its free plan is for an unlimited number of users, with unlimited spaces and boards, up to 6 custom fields per board, a 7-day activity log and files of up to 10 MB. The Gantt view and dashboards across several boards start on Pro, at $3.99 per seat a month billed annually ($4.99 monthly).
Best for: a growing team that thinks in tables and boards and wants everyone in for free.

3. ClickUp: unlimited members, limited storage

ClickUp puts tasks, docs, whiteboards and chat in one workspace. The Free Forever plan allows unlimited free members and unlimited tasks and subtasks, with Kanban boards, a calendar view and collaborative docs. The limits are 60MB of file storage, 5 Spaces, and Gantt charts that are only available as a trial. If your team attaches a lot of files, the storage limit will be the first thing you hit.
Best for: teams that want one tool for tasks and documents and keep files elsewhere.

4. Trello: free Kanban boards for up to 10 people

Trello is the simplest way to see a team's work as cards on a board. The free plan includes unlimited cards and Power-Ups, unlimited storage with a 10MB limit per file and 250 Workspace command runs a month, but only up to 10 boards and 10 collaborators per Workspace. Standard costs $5 per user a month billed annually; calendar, timeline and table views need Premium, at $10 per user a month billed annually ($12.50 monthly).
Best for: a team of up to 10 that liked Flow's Kanban boards.

5. Zoho Projects: free for 5 users with 5 GB of storage

Zoho Projects is a classic project management tool. Its free plan covers up to 5 users and 3 projects, with subtasks, a whiteboard, 5 GB of storage, iOS and Android apps and 50 workflow runs a month. Paid plans remove the project limit; prices depend on your region, so check them on the pricing page.
Best for: a five-person team with a few large projects.

6. Asana: unlimited projects for one or two people

Asana has a free Personal plan with unlimited tasks and projects and list, board and calendar views, but only 2 users can collaborate on it. Timeline and Gantt views and unlimited seats start on Starter, at $10.99 per user a month billed annually ($13.49 monthly). The free plan suits a founder pair; for a real team, Asana is a paid tool.
Best for: two co-founders who plan in projects and may upgrade later.

7. MeisterTask: simple Kanban, three projects

MeisterTask is a clean Kanban task manager. Its free plan includes unlimited tasks with checklists, comments and time tracking, up to 3 projects and 5 notes per team, 5 Content Manager seats and unlimited Viewer seats. Unlimited projects, recurring tasks and automations start on Pro, and timeline (Gantt) views on Business.
Best for: a small team with a handful of ongoing projects.

8. monday.com: a free plan for two people

monday.com's free plan is free forever but small: up to 2 seats, up to 3 boards and 3 docs, more than 200 templates, 8 column types and the mobile apps. Paid plans are priced per seat; when we checked from Europe, Basic was shown at €9 per seat a month billed annually. Treat the free plan as a way to try monday.com, not to run a team on it.
Best for: testing monday.com with one colleague before paying.

9. Plane: open source, free in the cloud for up to 12 users

Plane is an open-source project management tool for product and software teams, with projects, work items, cycles, modules, pages and several layouts. Its free cloud plan has a seat limit of 12 users, and Pro costs $6 per seat a month. If you prefer to host it yourself, the Plane Community Edition is licensed under AGPL-3.0 and, according to Plane, includes unlimited projects and work items with no user limits. Version 1.4.3 was released on 28 October 2026.
Best for: startup teams that build software and want a modern, open-source tool.

10. Taiga: free, open-source agile project management

Taiga is a free, open-source tool for agile teams, with Kanban boards, Scrum backlogs and sprints, epics and issue tracking. You can self-host it at no cost; its back end is published under the MPL-2.0 licence and was last tagged as version 6.10.2 in July 2026. Taiga's own free cloud plan has unlimited users but only 1 public and 1 private project and 10MB of storage; the Basic cloud plan, at €20 a month for the whole team, gives unlimited projects and 500MB.
Best for: agile teams that run sprints and are happy to self-host.

11. OpenProject: open-source project management on your own server

OpenProject supports classic, agile and hybrid project management. Its Community edition is free, open source (GPL-3.0) and installed on your own server, with no minimum or maximum number of users and community support. The hosted Enterprise cloud is paid (14-day free trial), and the Basic support plan costs €5.95 per user a month with a 25-user minimum. It is actively developed: version 17.9.4 came out on 26 October 2026.
Best for: teams that need full project planning and must keep their data on their own servers.

What Changed Since Our 2025 List

The 2025 version of this article treated Flow as a live product and listed several free plans that are smaller now or never existed:
  • Flow: shut down on 10 October 2025, according to its own website. It never had a free plan, only a 30-day trial.
  • Trello: the old list said unlimited boards and users for free; the free plan now allows 10 boards and 10 collaborators per Workspace.
  • ClickUp: the old list said time tracking and Gantt charts were free; Gantt charts are now a trial on the free plan, and storage is 60MB.
  • nTask (left out): the free Basic plan covers up to 5 members, but projects and Gantt charts need Premium ($3 a month billed yearly) or Business, so it is not a free Flow replacement.
  • ProProfs Project (left out): it offers a free account for up to 3 users, but its pricing page does not make the other free limits clear.
  • Todoist and Microsoft To Do (moved): both are personal to-do apps rather than team project tools; see our free Todoist alternatives for that use case. If what you miss is automatic time-blocking rather than team projects, see our free Motion alternatives instead.
  • New: Plaky's free plan for unlimited users, monday.com, and the open-source Plane, Taiga and OpenProject.

How to Move Your Team to a Free Tool

Whether you are leaving Flow, a tool whose free plan shrank, or a spreadsheet, the switch works the same way. Start from your two hard numbers, people and projects, because they rule out most free plans before you look at features.

Which Free Flow Alternative Should You Choose?

  • You want no user or project limits in the cloud: Freedcamp, or Plaky if you prefer boards and tables.
  • You want tasks, docs and chat in one place: ClickUp, as long as 60MB of files is enough.
  • You are up to 10 people and like Kanban: Trello.
  • You are up to 5 people with a few big projects: Zoho Projects.
  • You are two co-founders: Asana's free plan, or monday.com if you plan to buy it later.
  • You build software in sprints: Plane (free cloud for 12 users) or Taiga.
  • Your data must stay on your own servers: OpenProject, Plane Community Edition or Taiga, all open source.

How Founders Run Projects on a Free Tool

A free project tool is enough for most early-stage startups if you keep it simple: one board or project per goal, one owner per task, and a weekly review where you close or move everything that is late. Our guides to project management for remote teams and building remote teams across time zones show how to set this up, and the top project management tools for startups list covers paid options for later. If you manage client work as a freelancer, read our freelance project management tips.
Your project tool rarely works alone. We have checked open-source Trello alternatives with AI, open-source Notion alternatives with AI for a team wiki, free Miro alternatives for planning on a whiteboard and open-source Zapier alternatives to connect your tools.
