Conakry Startups to Watch in 2027: Verified Guinean Tech Companies, Support Programmes and Lessons for Founders

Conakry holds most of Guinea's young tech scene, and that scene is small. The 2026 version of this article named ten "top startups in Conakry". Three of them were real companies based far away from Guinea (Sourcegraph, Monad Labs and Mutiny), and we could not find any trace of the other seven. For this 2027 edition we started again: in October 2026 we checked each company on its own website, its licence, its address and its app store listing, and kept only those that show a Conakry base and recent activity. Only three companies passed that test, so this guide gives as much space to the hubs, programmes and payment infrastructure that Conakry founders actually use. Context facts come from named sources. The removed names are listed near the end.
Quick answer: the Conakry startups to watch in 2027 are YMO (money transfers from Europe to Guinea with no sending or withdrawal fees), PayCard (a Guinean e-wallet with Visa cards) and Movo (a moto-taxi and parcel app where the rider names the price). For support, look at Saboutech (an incubator in Dixinn), the Orange Digital Center (free coding school, FabLab and the Orange Fab accelerator), the Hackathon Future Champions 2026 (applications close on 15 November 2026) and Guinea Fintech Week. None of the ten companies on the old list could be verified as a Conakry startup.

What Building a Startup in Conakry Looks Like in 2027

Guinea's startup scene is young and centred on payments. According to The Fintech Times (April 2026), an estimated 15 to 30 fintech firms operate in the country, mostly in payments, remittances and basic financial services, and the country's economy still leans heavily on bauxite, gold and iron ore. That is why every company on our list moves money or moves people, and why most of them are built around mobile phones rather than bank cards.
Four facts shape the market:
  • Few people have a financial account, but the share is rising. At the launch of the national instant payment system, the central bank governor said that account ownership rose from about 4% in 2011 to nearly 36% in 2024, according to Guinéenews.
  • Payments are being connected. The Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (BCRG) launched NimbaPay on 22 July 2026 through Guinéenne de Monétique. It links banks, electronic money institutions and microfinance institutions for instant payments around the clock.
  • The telecom market changed hands. MTN concluded the sale of its Guinea business to the State of Guinea on 30 December 2024, so any product plan that assumed MTN as a partner needs checking.
  • Donor money targets digital skills. The World Bank approved USD 266.5 million on 30 November 2023 for a regional digital integration programme (WARDIP) covering The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Mauritania, including work on closing gender gaps in digital skills, entrepreneurship and digital financial services.

The Conakry Startups to Watch in 2027

1. YMO: money transfers to Guinea without fees

YMO lets people in Europe, Switzerland and the United Kingdom send money to anyone in Guinea with just a phone number, and lets people in Guinea pay for fuel, taxis and bills without cash. Its homepage advertises zero sending fees and zero withdrawal fees and showed a rate of 1 euro = 10,600 Guinean francs when we checked. YMO is an electronic money institution approved by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (licence dated 14 April 2022), with an office at Tour Niger in Kaloum, Conakry, and another in Paris. It says it has more than one million users and more than 10,000 YMO points across Guinea. Besides the consumer app, it publishes a merchant app and an agent point-of-sale app, both updated in October 2026. According to Financial Afrik, YMO was founded in 2019 by Abdoulaye Barry and closed a 3 million euro seed round in mid-February 2023, led by Breega and INCO Ventures.
Lesson for founders: start with the diaspora. Guineans in Europe already send money home every month, so a transfer product has paying users on day one, and the local wallet, agents and merchant tools can grow out of that flow.

2. PayCard: a Guinean e-wallet with Visa cards

PayCard is an e-wallet with an attached payment card. Users can pay merchants online and in shops, pay bills, top up phones, and send and receive money in Guinea and abroad, and can order a virtual Visa card, a Premium card or, by invitation, a Premium Black card. Its site says PayCard SA is an electronic money institution approved by the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (decision of 2016), and that its transfer company, PayCard TF, is domiciled in Conakry and was approved as a money transfer establishment in 2025. According to Financial Afrik, PayCard launched international transfers to more than 60 countries with the payments company Thunes in September 2025. Its iPhone app was last updated on 28 September 2026.
Lesson for founders: a card is a bridge. In a cash market, a wallet that also gives people a Visa card lets them buy from foreign websites, which no local cash habit can replace.

3. Movo: moto-taxi and parcels where the rider names the price

Movo is a moto-taxi app for Conakry. The rider sets the pick-up and drop-off, proposes a price, and nearby riders accept or counter; the rider then picks a driver after seeing the name, plate and rating, and pays in cash on arrival. Movo Send uses the same riders to carry parcels across the city. The app is free with no subscription. Its homepage shows real fares from recent rides, such as 10,000 Guinean francs for 3 km from Bambeto to the airport, and the site belongs to Wintech Factory LTD. Movo is very young: its iPhone app first appeared in the App Store in August 2026 and was updated on 22 October 2026, so treat it as an early-stage company to watch, not an established one.
Lesson for founders: turn the street habit into the product. Conakry riders already negotiate every fare, so Movo keeps the negotiation and adds what the street lacks: a known driver, a rating and a price agreed before the ride.

Support Programmes and Hubs for Founders in Conakry

Most help for Guinean founders comes from a few hubs, from telecom and mining companies, and from donor programmes. These are the ones we could confirm on official pages.

Saboutech

Saboutech calls itself the first incubator in Guinea. It runs a 1,000 m² coworking and innovation space in the Bluezone de Dixinn in Conakry, a one-year incubation programme (#Tremplin), an acceleration track of 12 to 24 months (#JePrendsMonEnvol) covering strategy, fundraising and market expansion, and Sabou Maker for electronics repair. Its site reports more than 35 startups incubated since 2016, more than 150 direct jobs and more than 3,000 people trained, and lists partners such as the OIF, the French Embassy, UNDP and Orange Guinée. When we checked, its latest call for projects, run with Expertise France, had closed and selection was under way.

Orange Digital Center Guinée

Orange's Orange Digital Center in Guinea was inaugurated on 7 December 2022 in Conakry, as The Fintech Times reported. It brings together a free coding school, a solidarity FabLab with 3D printers, milling machines and laser cutters, and Orange Fab, the group's startup accelerator. For founders without a technical co-founder, it is the most accessible place in Conakry to learn to build a first prototype.

Hackathon Future Champions 2026

The Hackathon Future Champions is led by Rio Tinto with TotalEnergies and Ecobank and run by Intellact. It is open to students and to startups or company projects less than two years old, registered or not. Applications opened on 15 October 2026 and close on 15 November 2026 at 23:59 Conakry time; selected teams get mentoring and pitch to a jury at a final whose date was not yet announced when we checked.

Guinea Fintech Week

Guinea Fintech Week is the country's main fintech meeting. According to Digital Mag, its fourth edition was set for 21 and 22 October 2026 in Conakry, under the theme "from dialogue to execution", with panels, workshops, an investor lounge and a hackathon for young tech talent. That edition has now taken place; watch its site for the next one.

NimbaPay and the central bank

NimbaPay is not a startup but it matters to every fintech founder in Guinea: it is the national instant payment platform, launched by the central bank on 22 July 2026 and run by Guinéenne de Monétique. It lets banks, e-money institutions such as YMO and PayCard, and microfinance institutions exchange payments instantly, 24 hours a day. A licence from the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea is the entry ticket: both fintechs on our list show their licence on their homepage.

Conakry Companies From the Old List That Changed or Could Not Be Verified

The 2026 version of this article listed ten companies, most with precise percentages and no sources. Here is what we found:
  • Sourcegraph, Monad Labs and Mutiny: real companies (code search, blockchain and AI marketing software), but none is based in Conakry or Guinea, and the old article only linked them to a general third-party list. Removed.
  • EcoLogic Farms, MedSecure Guinea, TechInnov, CleanGrid Renewable Energy, G-Con Logistics, BioLabs Guinea and SmartPay Africa: we found no website, registration, app or press coverage for a company under any of these names, so we removed them and every figure attached to them.
  • Unsourced statistics: the "89% user satisfaction", "15% higher digital currency adoption" and GDP growth claims had no source and are gone.
  • Not listed this time: Arabinènè (an online marketplace covered by the press in 2022; its site showed a bot check, so we could not confirm it is active), Magic (a delivery app covered in 2022; we found no official site), Cauridor (a payments API whose site gives a US address), MuduPay (no address on its site), WuriePay (still a pre-launch waiting list) and the new Conakry apps GoConakry, Liigo and Monmarché (App Store listings, but no official site we could confirm). Some of them may well earn a place in the next edition.
