Frase vs ContentKing (2027): AI Content Writing or 24/7 Website Monitoring, and What Happened to ContentKing

Frase vs ContentKing: AI Content Writing or 24/7 Website Monitoring, and What Happened to ContentKing

Frase and ContentKing are often compared, but they never did the same job. Frase helps you create content: it researches what ranks, drafts the article, scores it for Google and for AI answers, and publishes it. ContentKing helped you protect a website: it crawled your pages around the clock and alerted you when something broke. The bigger news is that ContentKing no longer exists under that name. Conductor bought it in 2022, and it is now Conductor Monitoring, part of an enterprise platform with no public prices. We checked both products on their official websites in October 2026.
Quick answer: for a startup that needs articles, choose Frase: from $39 a month on yearly billing ($49 month to month), with a 7-day free trial and no credit card. ContentKing is now Conductor Monitoring, sold inside Conductor's Essentials, Growth and Enterprise plans through a free trial, a demo or sales, without published prices. It makes sense for large sites where a broken template or a lost noindex tag costs real money; most early-stage startups can watch their site with free Google Search Console until then.

Frase and ContentKing in 2027: What Each One Does

Frase: research, write, optimise and publish content

Frase now calls itself a content operating system for AI search, with the promise "Rank on Google. Get cited by AI." It is no longer just a brief and outline tool. Frase audits your pages, finds topics from your search data, competitors and visitors' questions, drafts articles in your brand voice, scores them for SEO and GEO (generative engine optimisation, writing so AI assistants cite you), and publishes them to your CMS. Nothing goes live without your approval unless you switch on auto-publishing.

  • Starter, $39 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month: 1 seat and 1 site, 10 articles and 50 audit pages a month, SEO and GEO scores, AI Visibility on ChatGPT and Google AI, and Content Guard watching 10 pages for Google decay. It stops at its limits, so there are no surprise charges.
  • Professional, $103 billed yearly or $129 monthly: 3 seats and 5 sites, 40 articles and 250 audit pages, a content calendar, internal linking suggestions, AI crawler monitoring and Perplexity added to AI Visibility. Extra seats cost $29 a month.
  • Scale, $239 billed yearly or $299 monthly: 5 seats and up to 10 domains, 100 articles and 1,000 audit pages, Content Guard on 300 pages, Claude and Gemini added to AI Visibility, and client-ready reports. Enterprise is priced on request.
  • Free trial: 7 days, no credit card, with Professional features capped at 5 articles, 50 audit pages and 25 AI prompts. Yearly billing saves 20%. All prices are on Frase's pricing page.
  • Publishing and AI tools: Frase publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix, or hosts the blog on FraseCMS, free up to 100,000 page views a month. Its MCP server and CLI let you run Frase from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or a terminal on every plan.

Best for: founders and small marketing teams who need a steady flow of articles that rank on Google and get named in AI answers, without hiring an SEO writer first.

ContentKing, now Conductor Monitoring: 24/7 checks for your website

ContentKing was a real-time SEO auditing and monitoring tool. On 16 February 2022 Conductor announced a definitive agreement to acquire ContentKing, with all ContentKing employees joining Conductor. According to Conductor's Monitoring FAQ, ContentKing is the former name of Conductor Website Monitoring, which became Conductor Monitoring in 2025. The old contentkingapp.com address now redirects to the Conductor Monitoring page, and there is no separate ContentKing website, price list or sign-up any more.
The product idea is the same. Conductor Monitoring crawls your site continuously, so you never schedule a crawl, and alerts the right person the moment something on a page changes or breaks. It ranks issues by business impact, now also checks technical issues that affect AI answer engines (AEO), and keeps a changelog of every page change with up to 60 months of history.

Conductor Monitoring, the product ContentKing became
  • No public prices. Conductor's pricing page lists three plans, Essentials, Growth and Enterprise, without prices. Essentials starts with "Try for Free", Growth with a demo and Enterprise with sales.
  • Essentials: Website Monitoring for 100,000 pages on 3 websites, plus 60 AI writing-assistant drafts a year, 1,000 pages analysed, 500 tracked keywords and 5 competitors.
  • Growth: 500,000 pages monitored 24/7 on 5 websites, 180 drafts a year, 25,000 pages analysed, 5,000 keywords and 25 competitors. Enterprise: 24/7 monitoring for sites of any size and 10 or more websites.
  • Free trial: Conductor offers Conductor Monitoring free for 3 weeks (its FAQ says trials run 21 days), with no credit card.
  • Standalone? Conductor's documentation mentions accounts that have only Monitoring, without Conductor's content or intelligence products, so a Monitoring-only setup exists. How much it costs is not published; you have to ask Conductor.

Best for: companies with large or fast-changing websites, several teams editing pages, and enough organic revenue that a broken release noticed a week late is expensive.

What Changed Since the Old Version of This Comparison

  • ContentKing is gone as a brand. It became Conductor Website Monitoring after Conductor's 2022 acquisition and has been called Conductor Monitoring since 2025. It is sold as part of Conductor's platform, not as a small-business tool.
  • Old prices removed. The old article said Frase starts at $14.99 a month and ContentKing at about $39 a month. Frase Starter is now $39 a month on yearly billing or $49 monthly, and Conductor publishes no prices at all.
  • Frase changed too. It moved from content briefs to an AI agent that drafts, publishes and monitors content, with GEO scores and AI Visibility tracking for ChatGPT, Google AI, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini on the higher plans.
  • Wrong claims removed. ContentKing never tracked keyword density or rankings; it watched pages for technical changes and issues.
  • Removed: links to third-party reviews and listicles, a generic "common mistakes" list and statements we could not check on the vendors' own pages.

Which One Should a Startup Choose?

  • You need content: Frase. If your problem is an empty blog or articles that do not rank, Frase does the research, drafting and optimisation, and its Starter plan covers 10 articles a month on one site.
  • You have a small site and want monitoring: start free. Google Search Console reports indexing problems, and a desktop crawler run once a month catches broken links and missing titles. See Screaming Frog vs Sitebulb and our list of free SEO audit tools.
  • You run a large site with many editors: talk to Conductor. Real-time monitoring pays off when many pages change every week and one bad release can drop traffic for thousands of pages. Use the 21-day trial on your own site before a sales call.
  • You want both jobs in one place: Frase's Content Guard and site audit cover content decay and basic page issues on small sites; Conductor adds a writing assistant (Conductor Creator) for enterprise teams. Neither fully replaces the other at its own job.
  • Budget check: Frase shows its prices; Conductor does not. If a tool's price is only available from sales, expect an enterprise contract and plan the time for a demo and a negotiation.

How Founders Use Frase, Conductor and Other SEO Tools

Most early-stage startups need content before they need monitoring. A practical routine: pick 20 to 50 questions your customers ask, write one useful page per question, publish, and check monthly which pages gain or lose clicks. If you are writing for AI answers as well as Google, start with our GEO guide for startups and what generative engine optimization is.

Want articles without learning a new tool? The F/MS AI SEO Tool writes articles from your keywords, built to rank on Google and to be cited by AI assistants, and the AI SEO blog has more how-tos. And because content is also a cheap market test, validate your startup idea with real customers before you write fifty articles about it.

FAQ: Frase vs ContentKing

What is the main difference between Frase and ContentKing?

Frase creates content: it researches topics, drafts articles with AI, scores them for SEO and GEO and publishes them. ContentKing, now Conductor Monitoring, watches a website 24/7 for technical issues and changes and alerts your team.

Does ContentKing still exist?

Not under that name. Conductor announced its acquisition of ContentKing in February 2022. The product became Conductor Website Monitoring and, in 2025, Conductor Monitoring. The old contentkingapp.com address redirects to Conductor's site.

How much does Frase cost in 2027?

When we checked in October 2026, Frase Starter cost $39 a month billed yearly or $49 month to month, Professional $103 or $129, and Scale $239 or $299. Enterprise is priced on request.

How much does Conductor Monitoring (ContentKing) cost?

Conductor does not publish prices. Its pricing page lists Essentials, Growth and Enterprise plans that all include Website Monitoring; you start with a free trial, a demo or a sales call.

Is there a free version of Frase or ContentKing?

Frase has a 7-day free trial without a credit card and free tools such as a GEO Score Checker. Conductor offers a 21-day free trial of Conductor Monitoring, also without a credit card. Neither has a permanent free plan for the main product.

Can Frase replace ContentKing?

Only in part. Frase's site audit and Content Guard spot pages that lose rankings and propose fixes, but they do not crawl the whole site in real time like Conductor Monitoring.

Can ContentKing write content?

Conductor Monitoring does not. Conductor sells a separate writing assistant, Conductor Creator, inside the same platform: 60 drafts a year on Essentials.

Which tool helps with AI search and ChatGPT visibility?

Frase scores pages for GEO and tracks whether ChatGPT and Google AI cite you, with Perplexity, Claude and Gemini on higher plans. Conductor Monitoring checks technical issues that can block AI answer engines.

Where can I submit a guest post about my startup?

You can publish a guest post in one of the Fe/male Switch startup blogs, which rank in Google and in AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Get a quality backlink.

Can I use AI to write SEO articles for my startup?

Yes. Tools like Frase draft articles for you to edit, and the F/MS AI SEO Tool writes articles from your keywords that are built to rank on Google and in AI assistants.
