Majestic vs Wincher (2027): Backlink Research or Daily Rank Tracking, Which Should Your Startup Pay for First?

Majestic vs Wincher: Backlink Research or Daily Rank Tracking, Which Should Your Startup Pay for First?

Majestic and Wincher are both SEO tools, but they answer different questions, so comparing them feature by feature misses the point. Majestic is a backlink database: it runs its own crawler, maps which sites link to which pages, and scores those links with Trust Flow and Citation Flow. Wincher is a rank tracker: it checks every day where your pages rank on Google for the keywords you choose, next to your competitors, and keeps the history. One helps you find the links that move rankings; the other tells you whether your rankings moved. We checked both on their official websites and pricing pages on 1 November 2026, using the prices each page shows by default.
Quick answer: most startups should pay for Wincher first. You need to know where your pages rank before you spend time on links, and Wincher Basic costs €49 a month on monthly billing for 500 keywords tracked daily, with a 7-day free trial without a credit card. Add Majestic when your pages are stuck on page two and competitors clearly have stronger links: Lite costs €46.99 a month excluding VAT, and a free account gives you a few backlink searches a day. Wincher has no public free plan and Majestic does no rank tracking, so teams that build links seriously end up using both.

Majestic vs Wincher: links or rankings?

The Two Tools Compared

Majestic: the Backlink Index

Majestic has specialised in backlink analysis since 2004. It crawls the web itself and keeps two link indexes. The Fresh Index holds the backlinks found in the past 120 days, including links lost in that time; on 1 November 2026 it covered 4 July 2026 to 1 November 2026. The much larger Historic Index starts in June 2006 and runs to 26 March 2024, so it shows a domain's past rather than its newest links. You type a domain or URL into Site Explorer and see its referring domains, backlinks, anchor text, new and lost links and the topics of the sites linking to it.
  • Flow Metrics: Trust Flow scores the quality of the links pointing to a page or site, Citation Flow scores their quantity, and Topical Trust Flow shows which subjects a site is influential in. All run from 0 to 100.
  • Link prospecting: Link Context and a Bulk Backlink Checker on every plan; on Pro, Compare, Backlink History and Clique Hunter, which finds sites that link to several of your competitors but not to you.
  • What it does not do: no rank tracking and no traffic estimates. Its keyword data (Keyword Checker) is built from the link index and is not a replacement for a keyword research tool.

What Majestic Costs

The plans and pricing page opens on monthly billing in euros, excluding VAT:
  • Lite: €46.99 a month, 1 user, 1 million analysis units, Fresh Index and Site Explorer. Majestic describes it as low-use, for light users and domainers.
  • Pro: €94.99 a month, 1 user, 20 million analysis units; adds the Historic Index and all of Majestic's web tools.
  • API: €379.99 a month, 5 users and full API access, for agencies and developers who build their own tools on Majestic data.
  • Guarantee and billing: Lite and Pro have a 7-day money-back guarantee for new customers. Prices can be shown in dollars or pounds, and Majestic says an annual plan saves money.
  • Free: the free tools page offers a free backlink checker with a few Site Explorer searches a day, a weekly showcase site with almost Lite-level access, browser plugins, and the Majestic Million, the top 1,000,000 sites by referring subnets, as a free download.

Wincher calls itself a search visibility platform, and at its core is a Google rank tracker from Stockholm. You add your website and the keywords you care about, and Wincher checks their positions every day on every plan, on desktop and mobile, with competitors' positions, SERP features, keyword groups, annotations, notifications and white-label reports. Wincher also has a Keyword Explorer with 2.3 billion keywords in more than 150 countries, AI keyword suggestions and an On-Page SEO checker. Wincher says more than 700,000 marketers and business owners use it; that is the company's own figure.

What Changed Since the Old Version of This Comparison

  • Prices: the old version said Majestic started at $49 a month and Wincher at $19. In the default view on 1 November 2026, Majestic Lite costs €46.99 a month excluding VAT and Wincher Basic €49 a month.
  • Wincher is not a link-building tool: the old text said Wincher focused on finding link-building prospects. It tracks rankings and shows a backlink overview of your own landing pages; link prospecting is Majestic's job.
  • Wincher has no free plan: it offers a 7-day free trial and two free tools instead.
  • Majestic's Historic Index: it now runs from June 2006 to 26 March 2024. For newer links, use the Fresh Index, which covers the last 120 days.
  • Removed: a survey statistic with no source, a "future of SEO tools" section, a "mistakes to avoid" list, and links to third-party review sites.

Majestic or Wincher: Which Should You Choose?

  • You have just published your first pages: Wincher. Start the 7-day free trial and track the 20 to 50 keywords that matter most.

  • You report SEO results to a client, cofounder or investor: Wincher, with daily positions, share of voice and scheduled reports.

Track first, build links second, in 5 steps: pick 20-50 keywords, track them daily in Wincher, find the stuck pages, study rivals' links in Majestic, earn links and watch rank
Track first, build links second: five steps.
  1. Pick 20 to 50 keywords. Choose the searches your customers type before they buy. Keyword Tool vs Keyword Planner and our guide to checking competitor keywords help you find them.
  2. Track them daily. Add them to Wincher with your three to five closest competitors. Free keyword data inside Google is covered in Wincher vs Keyword Surfer and our new SE Ranking vs Keyword Surfer comparison.
  3. Find the stuck pages. After a few weeks, list the pages that sit on positions 8 to 20 even though their content answers the search well.
  4. Study rivals' links. Open the pages ranking above yours in Majestic's Site Explorer and note the referring domains with relevant Topical Trust Flow.
  5. Earn links and watch your rank. Pitch those sites with something worth linking to. Our free ways to get quality backlinks and our guide to choosing a link-building agency help here. Then check in Wincher whether the page moves.

Majestic analyses backlinks: who links to a site and how strong those links are. Wincher tracks rankings: where your pages rank on Google every day, next to your competitors.

Which one should a startup pay for first?

Usually Wincher, because you need to know where your pages rank before you invest in links. Add Majestic when pages are stuck below the top results and competitors have stronger links.

How much does Majestic cost?

In the pricing page's default view, Lite costs €46.99 a month, Pro €94.99 and API €379.99, excluding VAT. Lite and Pro have a 7-day money-back guarantee for new customers.

How much does Wincher cost in 2027?

Does Wincher have a free plan?

No public free plan. Wincher offers a 7-day free trial without a credit card, a 7-day refund on the first purchase, and free On-Page SEO Checker and SERP Volatility tools.

Is Majestic free?

Partly. A free account gives a few Site Explorer searches a day, a weekly showcase site has almost Lite-level access, and the Majestic Million list and browser plugins are free.

Can Wincher replace Majestic for backlinks?

Not for link research. Wincher shows a backlink overview of the landing pages you track, but it has no link index of its own for prospecting, no Trust Flow scores and no link history back to 2006.

Can Majestic track my keyword rankings?

No. Majestic does not track positions on Google. Use Wincher, another rank tracker or Google Search Console for that.

You can publish a guest post in one of the Fe/male Switch startup blogs, which rank in Google and in AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Get a quality backlink.

Yes. The F/MS AI SEO Tool writes articles from your keywords that are built to rank on Google and in AI assistants, with human editors reviewing them.
