SE Ranking vs Long Tail Pro: All-in-One SEO Platform or Long-Tail Keyword Finder for Startups?
For a young startup website, long-tail keywords are the easiest wins: specific phrases of three or more words that fewer sites compete for and that match what buyers actually type. For years, founders had two typical ways to find them. Long Tail Pro was a focused keyword finder built for exactly this job, and SE Ranking is an all-in-one SEO platform that covers long-tail research along with rank tracking, site audits, backlinks, local SEO and, now, visibility in AI answers. We checked both on their official websites in October 2026. SE Ranking has new plans and AI features; longtailpro.com no longer shows Long Tail Pro at all.
Quick answer: you can no longer buy Long Tail Pro. Its website went offline in March 2024 and the domain now shows an unrelated company. Choose SE Ranking if you want long-tail research plus daily rank tracking, audits and AI search tracking in one tool (Core from €87.20 a month billed yearly, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card). If you only need what Long Tail Pro did, a cheap focused keyword finder, choose KWFinder by Mangools (from €37.70 a month billed yearly).

The Tools Compared
SE Ranking: One Platform for Your Whole SEO
SE Ranking started as a rank tracker and is now an all-in-one platform for SEO and what it calls GEO, visibility in AI answers. One login covers keyword research, competitor and backlink research, website audits, a rank tracker that checks the top 100 results daily on Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube on desktop and mobile, local SEO, a content tool and AI search tracking. On its data page SE Ranking says its keyword database covers 5.4 billion keywords across 188 locations; that is the company's own figure.
- Core: €87.20 a month billed yearly (€109 without the annual discount): 10 projects, 1 manager seat, 2,000 keywords and 25 AI prompts tracked daily, 250,000 audited pages a month, unlimited keyword, competitor and backlink research, 6 months of history, 3 local business locations with a local and map rank tracker for 1,500 keywords, and API credits with MCP access.
- Growth: €188 a month billed yearly (€235 without the discount): 30 projects, 3 seats, 5,000 keywords, 25 prompts a day, 2 million audited pages and all-time history. Enterprise is priced on request.
- Add-ons: an AI Search toolkit with 200 prompts (+€63.20 a month billed yearly) and an Agency Pack with white-label reports (+€59 a month, yearly only). Extra keywords start at €20.80 a month.
- Trial and refunds: a 14-day free trial with no credit card, limited to 10 projects, 750 keywords and 20 AI prompts a day. SE Ranking says payments are non-refundable unless the service was not delivered as promised, so decide during the trial. See the SE Ranking pricing page.
How SE Ranking Finds Long-Tail Keywords
Long-tail research is where SE Ranking overlaps with Long Tail Pro. Its keyword tool sorts suggestions into similar, related, question-based and low-search-volume groups, and the low-volume and question lists are where most long-tail phrases sit. You can filter by word count, keyword difficulty, search intent and competition, see each keyword's current results and SERP history, and send the list straight to its keyword grouper, content editor or rank tracker. SE Ranking also has a separate Long-Tail Keyword Generator page, which it advertises as free: you enter a seed keyword and a country, then set a minimum of 3 to 5 words. Through MCP, the same keyword data can be pulled into AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT.
Best for: founders who want long-tail ideas and also want to track, audit and improve the pages they write, in one affordable tool. We compare it with other suites in Moz vs SE Ranking, SpyFu vs SE Ranking and Serpstat vs SE Ranking.

Long Tail Pro: What Happened to It?
Long Tail Pro was a keyword tool built around one idea: find long-tail keywords a small site can rank for, scored with its own Keyword Competitiveness (KC) metric. In its last archived version it also listed SERP analysis, a rank tracker, backlink analysis and a site audit, with the "full toolkit" advertised at $59 a month (Internet Archive copy, February 2024). The old version of this article already said it was no longer widely supported. Today it is gone:
- March 2024: the Internet Archive starts recording server errors (Cloudflare error 522) instead of the Long Tail Pro homepage.
- From May 2025: longtailpro.com shows the website of an unrelated firm.
- October 2026: longtailpro.com still shows that firm, the www address redirects to the firm's own domain, the old pricing page returns "page not found", and the app.longtailpro.com login address no longer resolves.
We found no official shutdown notice and could not confirm who owns the product today. There is no working way to sign up, pay or log in, so Long Tail Pro is not an option for a startup in 2027. Old advice for it, such as our Long Tail Pro tips, now works best as a checklist for any long-tail tool. If an old subscription is still being charged to your card, ask your card provider to stop the payment.
KWFinder: The Closest Replacement for Long Tail Pro
KWFinder by Mangools is the tool most like Long Tail Pro. Its homepage promises to find long-tail keywords with low SEO difficulty, and you can search by keyword or by a competitor's domain. It comes in a bundle with SERPChecker, SERPWatcher (rank tracking), LinkMiner (backlinks), SiteProfiler and AI Search Watcher, and a free account lets you try it first.
- Basic, €37.70 a month billed yearly (€452.40 a year): 100 keyword lookups per 24 hours and 200 tracked keywords with weekly updates.
- Premium, €52.70 a month: 500 lookups per 24 hours and 700 tracked keywords, updated weekly.
- Agency, €97.70 a month: 1,200 lookups per 24 hours and 1,500 tracked keywords with daily updates.
- Also: API and MCP access on every plan and a 48-hour money-back guarantee. There is no site audit tool. See the Mangools pricing page.
Best for: solo founders who mainly need long-tail ideas and a light weekly rank tracker. Our SE Ranking vs Mangools comparison covers the two suites in more detail, and KWFinder vs Wincher compares KWFinder with a dedicated rank tracker.

SE Ranking vs a Long-Tail Keyword Finder: Feature by Feature
Long-tail keyword research
Both SE Ranking and KWFinder show search volume, a difficulty score and the current top results for each idea, which is what Long Tail Pro's users relied on. KWFinder is simpler and built only for this task, but Basic allows 100 lookups a day. SE Ranking's research is unlimited on Core, with more filters (word count, intent) and a larger database by its own count, but it has more screens to learn.
Rank tracking
SE Ranking was built as a rank tracker: Core checks 2,000 keywords every day across Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, down to a city or ZIP code. KWFinder's sister tool SERPWatcher tracks 200 keywords weekly on Basic. For a new site checking progress once a week, weekly data is fine; if you publish often and want to see the effect the next day, SE Ranking is the better fit. Rank tracking is the main topic of SE Ranking vs AccuRanker and Wincher vs AccuRanker.
Audits, backlinks and local SEO
Here only SE Ranking is a full answer. Core audits 250,000 pages a month for technical problems, includes unlimited backlink research and monitoring, and adds local SEO with listings in more than 100 directories. A keyword finder such as KWFinder covers backlinks through LinkMiner but has no site audit, so you would add free tools such as Google Search Console.
AI search visibility
Long Tail Pro disappeared before AI answers mattered. SE Ranking Core now tracks 25 prompts a day, and SE Ranking says it covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini, showing whether AI answers mention or link to your site. Mangools includes its AI Search Watcher in every plan. If customers ask ChatGPT before they search Google, this matters more each month.
Price
KWFinder Basic costs €37.70 a month billed yearly and SE Ranking Core €87.20. The extra €49.50 a month buys daily tracking of ten times as many keywords, unlimited research, audits, local SEO and more frequent AI tracking. If you only need a few dozen keyword ideas a month, the cheaper finder is enough; once you publish regularly, one SE Ranking plan usually replaces two or three tools.
Discontinued and Changed Since the Old Version of This Guide
- Long Tail Pro: no longer available (website offline since March 2024, domain now used by an unrelated firm). We removed it as an option and added KWFinder as the closest replacement.
- SE Ranking's price: the old article said it started at $65 a month for 500 daily keyword checks. Today Core costs €87.20 a month billed yearly (€109 monthly list price) for 2,000 daily keywords, and its rank tracker page quotes subscriptions from $119 a month for visitors billed in US dollars.
- New in SE Ranking: AI search tracking in every plan, an AI Search add-on, MCP access for AI assistants and a separate Long-Tail Keyword Generator page.
- Removed: the unsourced claim that 73% of funded startups had "solid traffic and a scalable SEO framework", and the TopicRanker recommendation, which we could not verify.
The same change from other sides: Ahrefs vs Long Tail Pro, Semrush vs Long Tail Pro and Moz vs Long Tail Pro.
SE Ranking or a Long Tail Pro Replacement: Which Should You Choose?
- You have no budget yet: SE Ranking's free daily checks and Long-Tail Keyword Generator, Google Keyword Planner and Search Console. See Keyword Tool vs Keyword Planner and our free Ahrefs alternatives.
- You only need long-tail keyword ideas: KWFinder Basic, the closest thing to what Long Tail Pro used to be.
- You want one tool for your whole SEO: SE Ranking Core, for long-tail research, daily rank tracking, audits, backlinks and local SEO together.
- You sell locally: SE Ranking, because the local and map rank tracker and directory listings are included.
- You care about AI answers: SE Ranking, with 25 prompts a day on Core, or Mangools' AI Search Watcher on a smaller budget.
- You need the biggest database and are ready to pay more: see Ahrefs vs Semrush.
How to Find Long-Tail Keywords in SE Ranking
- Enter a seed. Use the words customers use for their problem, not your product jargon, and choose the country you sell in.
- Open the long-tail lists. The question-based and low-search-volume suggestions hold most long-tail phrases. Our 10 steps to find long-tail keywords go deeper.
- Filter. Set a minimum of three words, a low difficulty score and the intent you want (informational for guides, commercial for comparison pages).
- Group and write. Put close variants on one page instead of writing a page per phrase. Our long-tail SEO guide explains how to group topics.
- Track. Add the phrases to the rank tracker, check them weekly and update pages that slip.
How Founders Use Long-Tail SEO
Long-tail research doubles as a cheap market test. If nobody searches for the problem you solve, validate your startup idea with real customers before you build. If people do search, each long-tail phrase can become an article: the F/MS AI SEO Tool turns keywords into articles written to rank on Google and to be cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity, with human editors checking them, and the AI SEO blog explains how it works. For more free tracking options see our free rank trackers guide, and if you sell in one city, our local SEO tools for small businesses.
Rankings also need links. The F/MS Marketing Directories list places where you can submit your startup for free, which helps a new domain get its first backlinks.
