Rank Tracker vs Similarweb (2027): Track Your Own Rankings or Study Competitor Traffic, and Which One a Startup Needs

Rank Tracker vs Similarweb: Track Your Own Rankings or Study Your Competitors' Traffic?

Rank Tracker and Similarweb are often compared as two SEO tools, but they look at search from opposite ends. Rank Tracker, the desktop app from SEO PowerSuite (made by Link-Assistant.Com), tells you where your pages rank for the keywords you choose, on Google and hundreds of other search engines. Similarweb estimates how much traffic any website gets, where it comes from and which keywords and AI chatbots send it, so you can size a market and study competitors without access to their analytics. We checked both on their official pages in October 2026, including Similarweb's self-service prices and the rank tracker it now sells inside its SEO plan.
Quick answer: if you want to know and improve your own Google rankings on a small budget, choose Rank Tracker: the free version checks unlimited keywords, and saving projects and scheduled checks cost €179 a year. If you need competitor traffic, market sizing or numbers for an investor deck, use Similarweb: start with its free traffic checker and browser extension; paid plans start at $125 a month billed annually ($199 month to month), and rank tracking is only included from $333 a month. Many founders use Similarweb's free tools for research and Rank Tracker for daily SEO work.

The Two Tools Compared

Rank Tracker by SEO PowerSuite: Unlimited Keyword Tracking on Your Computer

Rank Tracker is the rank tracking app in SEO PowerSuite, next to WebSite Auditor, SEO SpyGlass and LinkAssistant. You download it for Windows, macOS or Linux and track as many keywords, websites and locations as you like. Link-Assistant says it covers local rankings in over 597 search engines: Google with its SERP features, plus Bing, Yahoo, YouTube, Naver, Yandex and Baidu. What you get:
  • Rank checks your way: desktop and mobile positions, from a country down to a city or an exact street address, scanning the top 10, top 50 or up to 1,000 results.
  • SERP history: every check saves the top 30 results, so you can see how you and your competitors moved over time.
  • Competitors: the app suggests your organic competitors, shows the keywords you share with them, and has a Keyword Gap tool for the terms you are missing. You track 1, 5 or 40 competitors per project, depending on the licence.
  • Scheduled checks: daily, weekly, monthly or on a custom date, on the paid licences.
  • Reports: upload a report to Dropbox or the SEO PowerSuite cloud for a shareable link, or send scheduled HTML email reports to clients on the Enterprise licence.
Rank Tracker does not estimate other websites' traffic. It tells you who ranks for your keywords, not how many visitors a competitor gets overall or from which channels; that is Similarweb's job.

What Rank Tracker Costs

The SEO PowerSuite pricing page sells Rank Tracker on its own or in the full suite, billed once a year:
  • Free, €0: check rankings without keyword limits and track 1 competitor per project, but you cannot save projects, schedule tasks, copy data or print reports. Good for testing, not for tracking over months.
  • Rank Tracker Professional, €179 a year: for in-house use, so under €15 a month. 5 competitors per project, unlimited saved projects, scheduled tasks and captcha-free checks.
  • Rank Tracker Enterprise, €419 a year: for client work. 40 competitors per project, plus saving, emailing and scheduling reports and export to CSV, SQL and HTML.
  • SEO PowerSuite bundle: all four apps for €349 (Professional), €599 (Enterprise) or €899 (Max +) a year on the default 1-year view. Every edition, including the free one, lists Google AI Overviews tracking.
  • Refunds: the pricing FAQ says you can cancel at any time but partial use is not refunded, so test the free version on your own keywords first.
We compared the same app with an enterprise platform in BrightEdge vs Rank Tracker, and with a browser-based suite in Rank Tracker vs Mangools.

Similarweb: Competitive Traffic and Keyword Intelligence

Similarweb starts from traffic, not rankings. Type in any domain and it estimates visits, engagement, traffic sources, top countries, the keywords that bring the site search traffic and, more and more, how many visits come from AI chatbots. Its website traffic checker explains that the estimates blend four data sources: first-party analytics that websites and apps share with Similarweb, an anonymous contributory network, partner data and public data. They are modelled estimates: useful to compare sites and spot trends, least reliable for very small websites.
  • Free tools: the traffic checker (it showed 3 free searches a day when we checked) and a free browser extension that shows any site's traffic, visits from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, top AI prompts, keywords with estimated clicks and CPC, and its rank by country and category. Similarweb says its free data is a high-level sample.
  • Competitive Intelligence, $125 a month billed annually or $199 month to month: 1 user and 3 months of history, with website performance, traffic and engagement, customer demographics, marketing channels and competitor alerts. No SEO tools.
  • Competitive Intel and SEO and AEO, $333 a month billed annually or $399: 6 months of history, plus organic search overview, keyword research, a rank tracker, site audit and backlinks, AI brand visibility with 150 tracked prompts, sentiment and citation analysis, and AI traffic.
  • Competitive Intel, SEO and AEO and Ads, $542 or $649: adds ad intelligence such as creatives, search and display insights and ad spend.
  • Businesses and enterprises: custom packages through sales; the API is only part of these custom packages or sold separately. The self-service plans come with a free trial.

Similarweb's Own Rank Tracker

Similarweb is no longer only a traffic tool: its Rank Tracker is part of the SEO and AEO plans. It tracks your keywords daily on mobile and desktop, from country down to city or zip code in 190 countries, flags AI Overviews and other SERP features, and adds daily click data, so you see how a ranking turns into traffic. Its competitor report lists every site in the top 100 for your keywords, and you choose 5 competitors to follow closely. Its FAQ says teams can track up to 200,000 keywords; the self-service plan page does not list a keyword limit. The page describes Google results only.
So the honest price comparison is this: rank tracking costs €179 a year in Rank Tracker Professional, and at least $333 a month billed annually in Similarweb, where it comes bundled with competitor traffic, keyword research and AI visibility data. If you only need rankings, Similarweb is far more than you need; if you need the traffic intelligence anyway, its rank tracker saves you a second tool.

What Changed Since the Old Version of This Article

  • Which Rank Tracker: the 2026 version described a budget tool for Google, Yahoo and Bing. That is SEO PowerSuite's Rank Tracker, which now covers over 597 search engines, YouTube and Google AI Overviews.
  • Similarweb grew into SEO: the old version credited Similarweb with "keyword gap analysis" and "custom reports on local rankings". Today its SEO and AEO plans include keyword research, a rank tracker with zip-code-level tracking, site audit, backlinks and AI prompt tracking.
  • Prices: both tools now publish prices, so this version lists them instead of calling one "affordable" and the other advanced.
  • Removed: third-party review links, a mention of an "F/MS SEO Funnel Optimization" tool we could not find, and general SEO advice with no source.

Rank Tracker or Similarweb: Which Should You Choose?

  • You want to see your rankings today, for free: Rank Tracker's free version. It will not save projects, so treat it as a test.
  • You want weekly tracking with history on a small budget: Rank Tracker Professional at €179 a year, or Enterprise at €419 a year if you report to clients.
  • You are validating a market or writing an investor deck: Similarweb's free traffic checker and extension first; Competitive Intelligence ($125 a month billed annually) for history and demographics. Quote its figures as estimates.
  • You need competitor traffic and rank tracking in one browser tool: Similarweb's Competitive Intel and SEO and AEO plan ($333 a month billed annually), or compare it with Semrush in Semrush vs Similarweb.
  • Your team wants rankings in the browser without traffic data: a cloud tracker; see SE Ranking vs AccuRanker, KWFinder vs Wincher and Serpstat vs Wincher.
  • You have no budget at all: Similarweb's free tools for competitors, Rank Tracker's free version for spot checks, and Google's own data from Keyword Tool vs Keyword Planner.

How Founders Use Rank Tracker and Similarweb Together

  1. Map the market. Run three to five competitors through Similarweb's free traffic checker: who leads, how many visits they get and from which countries. Our list of traffic estimation tools has more options.
  2. See what works for them. The free extension shows which channels, keywords and AI chatbots send them traffic; our guide to checking competitor keywords shows more ways.
  3. Pick 20 to 50 keywords. Choose specific terms close to what you sell, where the pages ranking today are beatable.
  4. Track them weekly. Add the keywords and your two to five main competitors to Rank Tracker, and write or improve one page per topic.
  5. Re-check each quarter. When your rankings move, compare your traffic share with the same competitors again.
Traffic data is also cheap market research: if competitors get little traffic and nobody searches for the problem, validate your startup idea before you build. To put numbers on the market, try these free market size calculators, and compare more competitor analysis tools.
Rankings only rise when you publish. The F/MS AI SEO Tool turns your keywords into articles written to rank on Google and to be cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity, with human editors checking them, and the AI SEO blog explains how AI search changes what to publish. When a page sits on page two, a backlink or a press release often moves it up, which is what the F/MS marketing services are for.
