Moz vs Mangools (2027): Which Keyword Research Tool Gives a Startup More for a Small Budget?

Moz vs Mangools: Which Keyword Research Tool Gives a Startup More for a Small Budget?

Keyword research is usually the first paid SEO tool a founder buys, and the budget is tight. Two names come up again and again: Moz Pro, the long-running SEO suite behind the Domain Authority metric, and Mangools, a bundle of five simple tools built around the KWFinder keyword tool. Both cover keyword research, rank tracking, competitor analysis and backlinks, but they meter your usage very differently: Moz counts keyword queries per month, Mangools counts lookups per day. We checked both pricing pages and product pages in November 2026 and compared what a startup actually gets for its money in 2027.
Quick answer: for keyword research on a small budget, Mangools gives you far more lookups: its Basic plan costs €37.70 a month on yearly billing and allows 100 keyword lookups a day, while Moz Pro Standard costs $79 a month on yearly billing ($99 monthly) and allows 150 keyword queries a month. Choose Moz Pro if you need more tracked keywords per plan (300 on Standard against 200 on Mangools Basic), Moz's own link index and Domain Authority, a site crawler, or a 7-day free trial before you pay. Both have free options, so test them on your own keywords first.

The Two Tools in 2027

Moz Pro: the all-in-one suite with Domain Authority

Moz has sold SEO software for more than 20 years and is now owned by Ziff Davis. Moz Pro puts keyword research, rank tracking, a site crawler, backlink research and, newer, AI search visibility tracking in one account. Its best-known metric, Domain Authority, scores how likely a site is to rank on a 1 to 100 scale; it is Moz's own metric, not a Google ranking factor.
  • Keyword Explorer: Moz says its index holds 1.25 billion keyword suggestions and 180 million ranking keywords across 170 Google search engines. For each keyword you get monthly volume, organic CTR, difficulty, the minimum Domain Authority of the pages that rank, and a primary search intent written by Moz AI.
  • Rank tracking: each campaign tracks your site plus three competitors, across up to four search engines per keyword, with desktop rankings in 200+ countries and mobile vs desktop comparisons in the US.
  • Link Explorer: Moz's own backlink index (its menu says over 40 trillion links), with Domain Authority, Page Authority, Spam Score and anchor text.
  • MozBar: a free Chrome and Firefox extension that shows DA, PA and Spam Score as you browse; paid plans get MozBar Premium.
  • AI visibility: paid plans track prompts across GPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode weekly, and write a few AI content briefs a month.

What Moz Pro costs and what it allows

The Moz Pro pricing page opens on monthly billing in US dollars. Paying yearly saves 20%:
  • Starter, $49 a month: an entry plan "for individuals managing a single website". Moz does not list its limits on the pricing page, so check them before you buy.
  • Standard, $99 a month ($79 a month paid yearly, $950 for the first year): 1 user, 3 tracked sites, 300 tracked keywords, 150 keyword queries a month, 5 keyword lists of 100 keywords, 5,000 backlink queries a month, 150 AI prompts.
  • Medium, $179 a month ($143 yearly): 2 users, 10 sites, 1,500 tracked keywords, 5,000 keyword queries a month, 20,000 backlink queries, 300 AI prompts. This is the plan with the 7-day free trial.
  • Large, $299 a month ($239 yearly): 3 users, 25 sites, 3,000 tracked keywords, 15,000 keyword queries a month, 70,000 backlink queries, 600 AI prompts.
  • Add-ons: $20 a month per extra 200 tracked keywords, $10 a month per extra 10,000 keyword queries, $49 a month per extra user. You can cancel or change plans at any time.
  • Free: a free Moz Community account gives limited access to MozBar, Keyword Explorer and Link Explorer (10 link queries a month).
The catch for keyword research: 150 keyword queries a month on Standard is about five searches a day. That is enough to check a short list of keywords, but not for broad research. The jump to 5,000 queries needs the Medium plan at $143 a month or more.

Mangools: five simple tools under one subscription

Mangools sells one subscription for all of its tools; the Mangools FAQ says they are not sold separately because they depend on each other (KWFinder's difficulty score comes from SERPChecker data). The tools are built for people who are not full-time SEOs, which is why founders and small teams like them:
  • KWFinder: keyword research with search volumes, a keyword difficulty score and long-tail suggestions, from a database Mangools puts at 2.5 billion related keywords, for more than 65,000 locations. You can also search by domain to see a competitor's keywords.
  • SERPChecker: shows who ranks for a keyword with 45+ SEO metrics, with a choice of Mangools, Moz or Majestic authority metrics, in local results.
  • SERPWatcher: rank tracking for desktop and mobile in 65,000+ locations, including cities and DMA regions; weekly updates, daily on Agency.
  • LinkMiner: a backlink checker that Mangools says draws on 9.5 trillion backlinks, including Majestic's fresh and historic index.
  • SiteProfiler: a domain overview with Moz and Majestic authority metrics, top content and competitors.

What Mangools costs and what it allows

The Mangools pricing page opens on yearly billing in euros, which Mangools says saves about 35% against paying monthly (the monthly prices sit behind a toggle, so we do not quote them):
  • Basic, €37.70 a month (€452.40 a year): 100 keyword lookups and 100 SERP lookups a day, 200 keyword suggestions per lookup, 200 tracked keywords updated weekly, 100,000 backlink rows a month, 20 site analyses a day, no extra seats.
  • Premium, €52.70 a month (€632.40 a year): 500 keyword and SERP lookups a day, unlimited suggestions, 700 tracked keywords updated weekly, 500,000 backlink rows a month, 3 extra seats.
  • Agency, €97.70 a month (€1,172.40 a year): 1,200 lookups a day, 1,500 tracked keywords updated daily, 1.2 million backlink rows a month, 5 extra seats.
  • On every plan: API and MCP access and AI Search Watcher PRO with 500 prompts. Limits refresh every 24 hours after your first request.
  • Free: a free plan with no credit card; KWFinder's free version gives 5 lookups a day with 15 related keywords each. Paid plans have a full refund within 48 hours of payment (not for two consecutive subscriptions).

Head to Head: Lookups and Tracked Keywords for the Money

Because the two tools bill in different currencies, we compare what each entry plan allows rather than converting prices:
  • Keyword lookups: Mangools Basic allows 100 keyword lookups a day; Moz Standard allows 150 keyword queries a month. For a founder who researches a new topic every week, this is the biggest difference between the two tools.
  • Tracked keywords: Moz gives more. Standard tracks 300 keywords across 3 sites, Medium 1,500 and Large 3,000; Mangools tracks 200, 700 and 1,500 on unlimited domains.
  • Rank update speed: Mangools updates weekly unless you pay for Agency. Moz does not state its update frequency on the pricing page, so ask Moz or test it during the trial.
  • Backlinks: Moz runs its own link index and Domain Authority; Mangools rents Majestic's data and shows Moz and Majestic metrics side by side.
  • Extras only Moz has: a site crawler for technical SEO, more tracked AI models per prompt list, and 24/7 support.

What Changed Since the Earlier Version of This Article

  • Prices: the 2026 version said Moz starts at $99 a month and Mangools at $49 a month. Moz now lists a $49 Starter plan and Standard at $99 ($79 paid yearly); Mangools shows €37.70 a month on yearly billing as its default price.
  • Moz's Priority score: the old text praised Keyword Explorer's prioritisation metric. Moz's Keyword Explorer page now lists volume, organic CTR, difficulty, minimum DA and search intent, not Priority.
  • New AI features: Moz Pro now tracks prompts in GPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode; Mangools added AI Search Watcher PRO and API and MCP access to every plan.
  • Removed: unsourced claims about how much traffic comes from AI search, and links to third-party review sites.

Which One Should You Choose?

  • You are a solo founder doing your own keyword research: Mangools Basic. 100 lookups a day for €37.70 a month on yearly billing is hard to beat.
  • You want to try before paying: Moz's 7-day free trial of the Medium plan, or the free Mangools plan and its 48-hour refund.
  • You track many keywords across a few sites: Moz Pro Standard or Medium, with 300 or 1,500 tracked keywords.
  • Link building is your main channel: Moz for its own index and Domain Authority; Mangools if Majestic's Trust Flow suits you.
  • You need daily rankings: Mangools Agency states daily updates; ask Moz about its schedule before you buy.
  • You are a small team: Moz Medium includes 2 users; Mangools Premium adds 3 extra seats that share the account limits.
  • You are not ready to pay: free MozBar, the free Moz account, KWFinder's 5 free lookups a day and Google Search Console together cover the basics.
